Freedom of speech in the United States provides countless benefits; however, free speech can also be problematic if not controlled or if controlled too much. Even if a seemingly perfect balance between too much and too little control could be reached, problems would still exist. Freedom of speech works conjointly with freedom of the press. When freedom of the press is considered it becomes necessary to take into account the policies of other nations, since freedom of the press is a global issue. The main focus of the poster is the central puppet show. The stage as an American flag reminds United States citizens that the United States is the "stage" they get to live on. The different ways that the audience members are looking signifies that in the United States, citizens play the role of picking which politicians and policies they choose to support. Different people support different levels of free speech in the United States and this is evident in the audience members choosing to look at one of the groups of puppets. It should also be noted that some audience members look in between two sets of puppets. This coincides with the reality that many citizens are confused or conflicted about where they should stand in regards to free speech policies. The fact that the audience members who choose to be entertained by the two unpopular extremes are not punished and can freely turn their heads in those directions shows that freedom of speech in the United States allows United States citizens to support almost anything and not be punished by the government. Currently, no country allows complete freedom of speech. According to the puppet analogy, this is a good thing if one wishes to avoid chaos. However, it is often difficult to decide what restrictions should be placed on freedom of speech, and many people and politicians have different opinions on where the line should be drawn.
