In recent years technology has swept over the nation and found its way into majority of Americas homes and schools. I wanted to know the effect that technology has had on children and teenagers. I came up with the question, is technology benefiting or hurting teenagers? With technology popping up around us everywhere today, almost all teenagers in America have access to technology is some form or another. From smart phones to computers, there are new ways to learn, communicate and do so much more. Today's high school experience is being lived, communicated, and recorded with technology. Her article follows 4 teenagers and their paths with technology. She describes how this generation is a new and changed group, they will never do things the same as others did before them. Taking notes on paper is no longer a thing, just like using a map for directions will never happen again. When you think about it, all of this is true, when was the last time you pulled out a paper map to try and find your way somewhere? Detwiler's article is a slap in the face, showing you what the reality really is. Statistics and facts are strategically placed throughout her article to go along with what she is telling you, and they are not just boring facts. It is facts like "an average teen has three hundred Facebook friends" (Detwiler 107), or "twenty four percent of teens are online 'almost constantly'" (Detwiler 106). Detwiler writes her article like the reader is reading a story, she is very descriptive yet factual.
