I truly believe that professional athletes should not be allowed to compete in the Olympics, but instead of professional athletes. I believe that amateur so is able to compete.The games are not just about how much many money you can earn, or how famous you are or, how good you're at the sport. Reason one they already get paid on average is $2.4 million! And these amateur athletes don’t even get paid in college. So it’s totally unfair that to these amateur athletes that they have to work to get paid, but these professional gets paid even to play horribly. Then the second reason not to have professionals not to play in the Olympics is that they won’t take these the game as seriously as the amateurs. They already do this for a living, people will prefer to watch a game that is more intense, instead of a game that players are giving lack of effort in the game. And my last reason is that professional should not be in the Olympics is because these professionals already have the glory and fame, but having a team of full of underdogs can provide more people to come watch these players. They are competing and giving everything they have for the love of their teammates, the love of their school, and above all, their love for the game. Paying athletes would ruin this standard of intercollegiate athletics. For all these reasons, college athletes should not be paid beyond their full ride scholarships.
Student-athletes should not be paid to play and the amateur status should remain as it has for generations. Student-athletes have not matured enough at this stage of life to be able to handle all of the additional responsibilities that would be forced upon them with the professional status. Put the almighty dollar aside and let students-athletes be student’s first, amateur athletes second, allowing them to grow and mature into tomorrow’s effective leaders.

Many athletes blamed poor investments, trusting unethical financial advisors, and lavish spending habits as their reason for having money troubles therefore being paid would assist them in life. Making money from the sports that they play teaches college athletes how to handle their money very wisely (Washington). If student athletes start receiving compensation on top of their full ride scholarships, the principle of amateurism will completely be disregarded. This issue has been widely debated by student athletes, the NCAA, the media, and fans alike. Granted, they are definitely the “money makers” and media icons, but student athletes are not professionals and should not be paid because they are amateurs. Although college athletes should not be given money in regard to their success and accomplishments on the field, the NCAA should take interest in helping provide stipends or allowances for underprivileged athletes who may not be able to provide for themselves because of the demanding college athletic and class schedules they face.
They're college students and college student's don't know how to handle their money. They do not know how to manage their money and use it wisely. If college athletes are paid, there will obviously be a range in salaries of players. The college athletes would be paid accordingly to their position on the team and all of the college athletes would have different salaries and they would feel that it was unfair that one person would get paid more than another because of their position on the team. There would be problems between the players. If college athletes are paid for their work, thy may never have the incentive to go to class. Most college students can get paid to attend college but if the athletes already have money from playing the sport that they're interested in, they would never want to go to class. Plus, if college athletes were being paid, they may lose passion for the game and they may not perform as well. Most of the players would see that they were getting paid and they wouldn't care if they played their best because they would still be getting paid the same salary. Since these guys are not professionals yet it would be unfair for there to be a significant discrepancy amongst the players that all put in such great effort(Emmert). Concern about the maturity of the athletes is the main problem as well. The majority of these athletes are under the age of twenty-two, and many of them have never had a job or have any money managing skills. This opens up for them to be taken advantage of by family members, friends, and others. Another concern is that by paying the athletes; the NCAA would effectively turn college sports into a minor league sports program for the MLB, NBA, and NFL(Emmert).

Professional athletes are performers or entertainers. They must perform well in each game or risk losing. If they don 't play well, they won 't last long. The work of professional athletes is hardworking and at times demanding. This is both physical and mental stress. They must be in the best possible shape. Athletes usually work out all year, both during the season and in the off season in order to be able to start for their team. They must be able to perform their jobs at the highest level at all times. Professional athletes also face the constant threat of injuries that could potentially end their careers. For these and other reasons, this kind of job can be quite stressful. During the season, athletes often practice more than 50 hours a week. They may have other duties related to the team as well for instance, going to meetings or watching films about the opposition. Athletes have to move to the place where their team is located. If the manager decides to trade them, they have to most likely to move again. Being a professional athletes they often have curfews and other restrictions on the things they do. They are not allowed to just leave the job at the office like workers in other jobs can. That’s why the athletes receive what they get, because of what they do when they need to
In closing, these athletes are making too much money in a society that traditionally bases salaries on the value of ones work. These athletes do not know what real work is or how hard it is to make a dollar. Although their job is difficult, they do not play a role in our economy like their salaries indicate. Therefore, they should receive less money.
People should be able to spend how much they want on a player or a team. If you have the skill, you should get enough to pay the bills. The key difference between sports and other industries is that competition is the product that leagues sell.
A lot of Athletes are model citizens that you should really look up to, but there are. also some bad apples in the bunch that ruin it for everyone. Athletes can inspire young people to work hard so that their efforts can pay off, but no one. is pure and flawless. Greed does take a hold of some players, but they do. shouldn't be the ones we devote all of our attention to.
In today’s society many will argue whether or not professional athletes are overpaid. In the present time athletes are being paid phenomenally large amounts of money for their entertainment. It is my claim that all professional athletes are overpaid because they do not offer society an essential function that improves or enhances our world in comparison to other professionals such as medical doctors, lawyers, and teachers. Society does not value entertainment enough to warrant such high salaries such as those of many professional athletes. There is no reason that these athletes should demand these tremendous amounts of money. This is why you have to put into question their reasoning for demanding such high salaries.
