Study Abroad Ambassador Prejudice, a harmful opinion not based on action or an actual reason. Bigotry, the act of not tolerating other people’s opinions. Narrow-mindedness. the act of being prejudice and bigotry. Mark Twain quoted, “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.” The striking words of one of my most favorite quotes are so little, yet so striking. Traveling the world and seeing different cultures allows people to see the world in a different perspective. It lets you see the differences from your daily life to other people’s daily lives, whether its heartbreaking or spectacular. I am currently living at home and commute to school to save money. I want to use this time of studying abroad to be away from my family and friends, even though it is going to be super hard to leave my dog for four months. While I am abroad, I do not want to completely disconnect from everyone, but I would like to keep it a minimum. Studying abroad lets you see different people’s cultures, lets you find things that you like that you did not know before, and allows you to meet foreign people, and surrounds your daily life by their influences. What I expect to get the most out of this trip is to realize how blessed I am with my life. Going to college, having a roof over my head, being able to drink fresh water, having abundance amounts of food, and working in the hospital on a cancer unit makes me realize how good I have it compared to other people based on overall health reasons. As typical human beings, I feel like we complain a lot about our lives and forget that we have so much to be thankful for everyday.
