“This is a hell of a good book.” Chris Cutcher, who is an author himself said that about a book called Story of A Girl by Sara Zarr. In the book, Deanna Lambert got caught in the back of her boyfriend Tommy’s Buick by her dad. Now, she is sixteen, and she still has to deal with not only her dad hating her, but being called the slut in her school. She wants to escape her life that is defined by her past. Her brother and his girlfriend live in the basement with their baby, and they are the only people that care for her anymore and treat her fairly. This book was a National book award finalist, and the School library Journal said it was “Realistic fiction at its best”, and “An emotionally charged story”. Overall, there was some positive and negative criticism towards this book. One review that had some negative criticism was from a blogger named D. Swizzle. She mentioned that the book had no real plot, she thinks that Dianna is annoying in a sense that she blames everyone else on her previous mistakes, that some parts don't even have a …show more content…

I thought that the book could have been a true story, and all the events could have happened in real life. The book was very unique in the way that it described what happened with Deanna, and her story through the summer of Junior year and her struggles in life. It made me think about how one decision could affect your entire life forever, and that the truth always comes out. I would recommend this book to anyone who is in high school and wishing to read a true story about a girl and her struggles in her life. Even though I did not agree with all of D. Swizzles remarks about the book, I still agreed with some of them. D. Swizzle and I both thought that the book was good and that once you started the book, you could not put it down till you were at the end of the story.
