My desire to learn and passion to progress have fuelled me to pursue higher studies in sciences and follow my aspirations. I was, at a very young age, acquainted with the theory of evolution in the form of the Indian mythological narratives of the “Dashavatars” (ten incarnations of God); I was fascinated with the gradual transformation of the ten incarnations from Matsya (fish) to Vamana (humanoid form) and later to Kalki (the extant Human). Though I did not relate this to evolution at that age, reading ‘Deception Point’ by Dan Brown in my 8th grade got me home to the world of Evolution and Astrobiology and have been enchanted since. The theories of Darwinism, Panspermia learnt in high school have intrigued me and still continue to do so. Having secured the second highest mark in Biology among students throughout India, in the Final Board Examinations, I confidently chose the field of Biotechnology as my Undergraduate Program in the Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering, affiliated to the Anna University (Chennai). This choice enabled me to learn the major techniques, study the variety of course offerings in the Biology concentration and use them for research that would help me in my career in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology & in my Masters.
Being resolute, industrious, my organized commitment towards studies helped me perform well and be among the top 10 students of my department. For me, studying courses like Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, Micro and cell Biology, the diverse cycles and cellular processes, the interconnections and interdependence, the radiated heterogeneity of the systems in different species appeared natural and inspiring. To my mind the jigsaw of all these differences could be woven to...

...gree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from your esteemed university will empower me with a background that can facilitate me to work in the NASA Astrobiology Institute, going forward.
Academic work interspersed with Research in Ecology gives me an opportunity to study the interactions between different organisms, their diverse behavioural mechanisms whereas with evolutionary biology, the unfolding and genealogy of such interaction and variety can be elucidated. This field is an amalgamation of a study that has the scope to both prognosticate and also dwell on the history of emergence of the new species. I am confident that I can prove my passion for research in the evolutionary sciences and look forward to studying at your university. An opportunity to pursue my passion at your University will be greatly appreciated and I will give my best in achieving my goals.
Biocentrism takes the reader on a seemingly improbable but ultimately inescapable journey through a foreign universe‒our own‒from the viewpoints of an acclaimed biologist and a leading astronomer.
Anyone with even a moderate background in science has heard of Charles Darwin and his theory of evolution. Since the publishing of his book On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection in 1859, Darwin’s ideas have been debated by everyone from scientists to theologians to ordinary lay-people. Today, though there is still severe opposition, evolution is regarded as fact by most of the scientific community and Darwin’s book remains one of the most influential ever written.
My affinity for biology comes from my childhood days that I spent watching dissection of rats and looking at the cellular structure under microscope. My mother, being a professor of biology regularly used to take me with her to a Biology lab and that is where my journey towards medical career began. Early on in my life, my family went through a long agony of my father's illness and death. This became a solitary stimulus for me to take up this profession and a driving force to strive for excellence. Going through that turmoil of recurrent hospital visits gave me a firsthand experience of an anguishing family.
Charles Darwin theory of evolution states that species come and go through time; while they exist, they change (Montgomery, 2009). This theory suggested that with time different environmental factors forces, biological beings and other entities to change to survi...
It was during his journey on board the Beagle that Darwin developed his theory of evolution. “On the Origin of Species” (Darwin, 1859) proposed two main principles: evolution really occurs and natural selection is its mechanism. This work published on 24th November 1859 traces a coherent portrait of life bringing together in an orderly manner an astonishing variety of apparently independent facts. It led biologists to concentrate on the diversity of organisms, their origins and their relation, their similarities and their differences, their geographical distribution and their adaptation to various environments.
The facts and research on evolution is so important in our wold today that we all must really understand it. Correctly understanding evolution is crucial for understanding biology as well. Scientist Theodosius Dobzhansky said, “Nothing in biology makes sense except in the light of evolution.” Evolution proves to be the only scientifically backed up explanation for human diversity. It shows us the connection between vastly different forms of life. As well as showing the changes and evolution of popul...
Only in the past one hundred years have men finally put aside their Biblical and mythical tales about creation, and looked to the facts in order to piece together a logical explanation for the origin of mankind. In turn, men were now able to explain the enigma of their origin without the presence of a supernatural being responsible for their creation. At the head of a slew of men trying to uncover logical reasons for mans derivation was Charles Darwin. Darwin was the most accomplished of these men because he was able to put forth a logical conjecture that was based upon facts and observations. This theory, for a short time, was able to end the feud among educated men because many now put their trust in this new “theory of evolution”. Unfortunately, this revolutionary new theory threatened the religious beliefs about creation and soon a new rivalry emerged between the creationists and evolutionists.
Whether it be at a high-end banquet or at a BBQ in the park, when conversing with a group of people it is often said to “never discuss religion and politics.” These are two topics that one is advised to stray away from when socializing with others due to the fact that some may have their heart and soul invested into the matter, thus revealing your opinions on “what is going to happen after we die” or “what political party is better” may lead to offensive comments and a chaotic argument. The caution of approaching these topics in conversation should also be the same when discussing evolution. When talking about evolution or sharing an opinion, one must tread lightly as one maybe stepping on a couple of toes with their opinions. The topic of evolution branches out into numerous theories and hypotheses that may be simple to a creationist or a biological scientist but to a person such as myself, evolution can be a labyrinth. Due to the numerous and perplex theories of evolution, my goal is to shine light and provide understanding for a single topic in relation to evolution. By no means is this factor more important than the others as mutation and genetic drift demonstrate an equal importance to evolution, however a vast ocean of biological information can not be explained by one student. The main focus of this paper is on a factor that is present in animal kingdoms all o...
When the average person thinks about zoology, they usually think about a zoo and or animals. As said in General Zoology, many questions come with this topic. “What is life? In what ways are the various kinds of animals alike or unlike in structure, internal processes, and modes of life? How do animals carry on their activities? How are the many kinds related to one another? In what ways does man resemble and differ from other living things? The answers to many of these questions are provided by the science of zoology.” (General Zoology, page 3). While zoology does involve animals, the general study of zoology is far more complicated then one would imagine. Zoology is a branch of biology that studies the classification, origins, habitats and behaviors of organisms. Someone who studies zoology is a zoologist, and has the tasks of learning about new species and their habitats. It is a job that if mastered, can be one of the most fulfilling and knowledgeable careers someone can obtain.
In this article I shall try to dissuade the reader of the popular scientific theory of evolution, through use of scientifically sound facts and some philosophical arguments using the Vedas.

My desire of studying biomedical sciences stems from my sciences interest, as it demonstrates a world not visible to the naked eye, plays a big role in everyday life. science specifically biology and chemistry are stimulating and challenging subjects , over the years of studying them ,my interest has increased because learning things about how our bodies function and how it relates to god’s creation is particularly interesting for me. I also find it very important because I’m Muslim. The biomedical science degree will open for me the door to learn more about the vast field of biology and its branches to a greater depth. I developed my knowledge in the science field by taking support classes in the lab at school; I was fascinated by how the body can function in different circumstances and the complexity of DNA, different organisms, chemical reactions, and also very importantly the mathematical aspect which gives me the chance to develop and use my logic and it inform me to new ways of looking at given problems.
