Maya begins her story in 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri. At three, Maya moves into a small town in Arkansas called Stamps. Her parents are divorced and no longer want her and her brother, Bailey. So, she lives with Momma, Bailey, and Uncle Willie. Momma owns a store in the town where many white folks come in and out of the store usually. Maya wishes she could be as pretty as the white girls in the town and she also feels not as equal as the other African-American children. Momma, Bailey, and her all undergo racist comments from some customers of the store.     The book which I have chosen is County by David A. Ansell, M.D., MPH. This book entails the story of Dr. Ansell and his journey of becoming a doctor from the time he starts his residency to the end of his career at one of the nation's most controversial hospitals. The name of this hospital was Cook County Hospital (C.C.H.), this hospital no longer exists and now it is called John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County. Dr. Ansell’s journey was an impactful one because he was a first hand witness to the struggles the hospital faced in everyday life and how much change had to be done to better the hospital. C.C.H. was a public hospital and people without health insurance were able to get treatment at this hospital but there was a price one had to pay, People had to wait hours to see a doctor and this possibly could be life threatening to the patient. This is the struggle one has to deal with being uninsured. More than that the hospital was filled with overcrowded rooms, inefficient doctors, and even the politics that ran the hospital were controversial. Throughout the book though Dr. Ansell talks about different health care providers who despite working in a corrupt hospital that is basically broken they were dedicated to fixing C.C.H. and loved working there.

As greed, selfishness, and racism caused misfortune to the Logan family and their land, they stand strong with pride and dignity, willing to do whatever it takes to keep what is most important to their eyes. However, matters only get more and more complex when a lynch mob is determined to lynch Mr. David Logan, Mr. Morrison, and Mr. Jamison along with T.J. the night of the immense incident. Since the story is told through the eyes of a little girl, Cassie reveals all her pain as well as her perspective and point of view of life. As one can see, Mildred Taylor applied the conflict to the story ever so professionally. She did a phenomenal job using a variety of techniques to make many themes fit perfectly within the story; she additionally applied the theme to the conflicts. In addition, the story was recounted through the eyes of the main character, Cassie, which will soon lose her innocence. Cassie’s point of view had a great impact on the marvelous story.
