Thinking of serving in the profession of social work just to be in a job? Then one should reconsider options. Social work is a very critical area that calls for more than just the need to be employed to assist in upholding the welfare of the people. Passion and the desire to step into action to help advance humanity are key drivers to becoming a great social worker. Unlike many jobs, working as a social worker is a challenging experience. Social workers are exposed to a constellation of problems that at times affect proper performance in their various mandates Browne, (2016). These challenges precipitate job dissatisfaction and increased burnouts, which promote inefficient service delivery. One of the most eminent problems that social workers encounter is low pay. Although the profession involves a lot of input in terms of effort and time, practitioners in social work are among employees who receive meager salaries and benefits. While this factor demotivates to a great deal, it is also the leading cause of job stressors, which contribute to burnouts and discontent, factors which in turn reduces social workers’ capacity to dispense quality services. Nonetheless, this does not mean that they are supposed to neglect the society in pursuit of their individual needs. Rather, it is important for social workers to agitate for work leaves and better pay, which motivates them to work in a more effective and efficient manner. Likewise, to avoid frequent fatigue, social workers are bound to engage in other life nourishing activities, like exercises and some little time off to engage in something different, such as some walk to enjoy the beauty of the nature.
