Soccer is a sport comprised of many types of players, but the main three categories are midfield, defence, and forward. Each of these positions do separate jobs, as well as the sub positions that lay under the three main categories. The positions are really what makes the game of soccer flow from end to end with each player needing to hold up their end to make sure the team as a whole works because in soccer the team is truly as strong as its weakest link. The offensive positions are usually the ones that are given the most credit for the games as they are the ones that score the goals to win the games, but often times they have a lot less pressure on them than the others. The three main sub positions to the forward are right-wing, left-wing and center-forward/striker. The wingers jobs tend to be simple as the main goal of these players is to get the ball wide on the pitch and use their speed (which is needed for this position) to get down the line and cross the ball to the other waiting players. The job of the defensive player is to win the ball in the midfield when the opposing team has possession on a counter attack and to win the long balls in the air. The job of the center midfielder is to get the ball to their feet as much as possible to distribute it to the forwards to try and unlock the opposing team's defence. While the attacking midfielders is meant to go at the oppositions defence either on the dribble or to pick up the scraps that are left from the forward who has headed the ball back to them. The midfield tends to be the position where the ball spends the most time as they are the ones who transition from defence to attack, and when the ball passes through the midfield line it is the defenses job to keep the opposition forwards from going forward on an attack and
