Many events take place in our life that have an impact on who we are, and we learn how to deal with such events which makes us stronger. A set of significant events have helped shape who I have become today by teaching me to value everything given in life. Throughout the interview with my mother, we discussed how specific events have impacted my life. These specific events include losing my grandmother, moving to Regina, and having a little sister. My mom and I were able to share similar responses on how I am stronger due to these significant events. The first significant event, as well as recent event that has impacted my life heavily is when my grandmother passed away in October due to cancer. She came all the way from Pakistan five months before her death when she was in no condition to travel because should could no longer walk. She came to Regina in search of treatment. Her death heavily impacted me because this is the first time I have experienced a family member dying and it had impacted my family’s life because one of our family members who was with us for quite some time was now gone. When my mother gave birth to my little sister, I suddenly became sad because since I was no longer the youngest it impacted me emotionally because I was so used to being cared for and pampered all the time. Since my newborn sister was receiving all the attention it made me bitter and I would always think that my parents forgot I existed. This has made me realize that I am grateful for a younger sister and since I have grown up and never get upset over little things. My mom believes that I have since grown up to be more mature and I never get upset or depressed when someone has received joy in their lives.
