Introduction: Should video games be considered a sport. I think video games should be considered a sport. Some reasons why they should be considered sports are how many people participate in them. Many people don't think that video games should be classified as a sport but I believe differently. In this research paper I will be looking at both sides of the discussion and what makes or determines a sport. I will also be discussing my views and some facts that support my views on whether video games can and should be considered a sport. In this paper I will be researching three main topics that I believe to be key points in determining a sport. Also how some sports were recognized as a sport and how a specific hobby may become a sport played …show more content…
Considering that no matter where you live as long as you can get the machine working then you can play with people around the world. For example I have played games with people from china and europe. Video games encompony the entire world. No matter what you look like or what you sound like it doesn't matter. All that matters in videogames is your skill and teamwork depending on the game it could have different requirements. Video Games have the entire world participating in them. If you were to play a (MMO) or a Massive Multiplayer Online game and you played against another character you would have know idea what they looked like all you know is that they may or may not have skill in this specific game. Videogames diversity isn't limited to just one game it's spread over all games and everyone's …show more content…
Some of the similarities I found was the amount of practice and hard work you have to put into both of them. Video games or Major league gaming requires hour upon hours upon weeks of practice and learning the specific requirements for the game. All games are different in some way. Even though they may appear the same the feel and the game mechanics are different. So depending on what game or games you play you have to learn every rule and strategy for each and every game. Sports are similar in many ways. As in video games they also require practice every day. They also require that you learn the rules of the game you are playing. Sports and video games both are competitive hobbies that require a lot of practice. The main and the only difference that I could find in my research was that most sports have a physical movement in them. Video Games however have very little if no physical movement at all. This one difference is what keeps video games from becoming a sport played around the world by millions of

In pages 20-24 of Reality Is Broken: Why Games Make Us Better and How They Can Change the World, I agree that there are many different video games. For me, I am a fan of single-player games with story modes because I can play by myself and go at a pace that suits me. However, I enjoy playing online multiplayer when I have friends I can play with because it is fun interacting with friends and doing stuff together. I play on a console or my computer, but I have played on my phone and a hand-held device. I have not played a board game or card game in a while, but I would play it if the opportunity presents itself. The video games genres I play are sports, action, and adventure. I agree with Jane McGonigal that video games share four defining traits,
The history of video games began in early 1950s, and it continued in development until today. video games gained popularity as movies and T.V shows, and like movies which producers focus on the story plot, each character role, and the way they are being represented, videogames have the same concerns, especially character 's role and, representation, because most of players will not care about the game’s story, they just want to have fun playing the game, but the player will play as a character, or meet other characters from various gender, and that what make game designers care about the gender and, characters representation. and by the way of presenting gender, it will control the number of players of both genders, because it could connect to their life. games industry made researches about what both genders want in their game,
...it sports require movement if even the slightest. It would not be the right thing to do to call this a sport it would disgrace the name of sports and it could be insulting to those who participate in real sports. Considering all the training and hard work put into their game then have a poker player who probably does nothing in preparation for their game but yet can have the title of athlete. Does not seem fair to all the athletes that risk injury in pursuit for glory in their sport. A card game is not a sport like Matt Pusateri says in his article “lets try to pretend it’s something it isn’t .” "The practice of sport is a human right. Every individual must have the possibility of practicing sport, without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play." –Olympic Charter
As you can see there are many differences and similarities within two sports. For example, one has contact and the other does not have any contact. Also, the equipment is a lot stricter than the other. Last, both sports are just for families to connect and to have fun with each
This essay will attempt to prove, that statements made regarding the inappropriateness of video games are untrue. The advantage of playing video games can be proven in their ability to enhance learning, hand-eye coordination, and this in turn can enable children and teenagers to do better in school. Violent video games can help overcome anxiety by providing entertainment without leaving the house, taking everyday stresses out on the characters in the game instead of real life, takes the adolescent’s minds off worries and stress of the outside world, and encourages children to stay out of trouble. The world we live in has changed dramatically over the last thirty years with the invention of the internet, smart phones, and video gaming systems. The world we live in now was unimaginable and the technology advances we have made are remarkable. Video game consoles and how we as a society play them has changed dramatically since the beginning of gaming in the 1970’s. Over the last decade there have been many arguments concerning video games such as too much violence, obesity, addiction, social wellbeing, and many other health related issues. Video games also have some advantages to include hand eye coordination, a strategic mind set, educational and teach life lessons to the players. However, video games do cause more harm than good because the negative outcomes out weight the positive aspects of playing video games.
The first video game arrived on the scene in the 1950’s. It began as a rather simplistic form of entertainment including games like “Tennis for Two” and “Ping Pong”. Fast forward 50 years later and current games advanced extremely beyond the basic oscilloscope. Developed animations have lifelike characteristics; some even mimic the movement of the player’s body. Video games have evolved and with evolution come many concerns about its sometimes violent and immoral contents. This presentation serves to educate whether video games have a negative effect on the behavior of youth. We will highlight both negative and positive aspects of the practice and use statistics to help you make an inform decisions when selecting games for loved ones.
Video games have come a long way. They have evolved from the simple game of Pong into a complex, multi-platform, multi-genre, multi-billion dollar industry.
Video games are electronic sports which involves user interface and user interactivity. They generate a visual response which helps to provide excitement and entertainment. Video games are played on computers, televisions, or any kind of device with a display screen. People play video games for fun and also because some games are more productive and useful. With growth in technology video games have become very popular in children. In conclusion videogames should be a sport because videogames have the same aspect of practicing and learning just like the games football or basketball. And it is also just not fair that nonphysical games like chess and poker can be called a sport but videogames

Is the presence of fans in a stadium, watching teams of people in peak physical conditions competing head to head the definition of a sport? According to Google a sport is “an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.” MOBA games fit this definition. The players train for hours a day mastering the art of jitter clicking (clicking very quickly by twitching the muscles in the wrist) heightening reflexes, and working as a team. Just like in professional typical sports, eSports teams have coaches telling them real time what is happening and how to respond.
Sports video games, video games that replicate a real life sport, have been around ever since the first video game console was released . Magnovox Odyssey, one of the first video game consoles, consisted of a table tennis game. Atari’s Pong, another sports video game, one of the very first video games was also a replica of table tennis (Suellentrop 7). As the video games have become more realistic and more popular amongst sports fans, they have created a vast impact on the video gaming industry. FIFA, a soccer video game by EA sports, captured 10% of the 351 million video game playing soccer fans around the world (Consalvo vii). Today, sports are a popular hobby for many people, but
Someone is sitting on a stage with people clapping and people cheering, but they didn’t sing or dance, they did magic while playing a video-game. This is competitive gaming. People can see and know that gaming is fun. They are playing a sport. Some disagree with this, but many other people believe it is. The players must go to the gym for fast reactions and stamina and must be very mentally focused, and just agree to stick with the trends as well. Video gaming should be a sport.
