As the world becomes increasingly dependant on the simplicity that technology provides to everyday tasks. Automobile and technological companies are taken advantage of their knowledge of vehicles and technology to incorporate them together, to create self-driving vehicles. However, with any discussion about change, there will be controversy surrounding it. There are two understandings on how the future will pan out with the invention and usage of self-driving automobiles. From some perspectives, self-driving automobiles are costly, dangerous, and could lead to unemployment in the transportation sectors. Society has become extremely dependent on the ease created by technology. This dependency has taken over how society functions as a whole. Technology has become a norm. However, critics wonder why technology needs to be in every aspect of life. And if there should there be a boundary to how far technology can go. The question that consistently that is brought up by those opposing is, why change what is already been working for decades? The change in how society moves from place to place will just create too much stress and hassle that is not necessary. There are other aspects of how self-driving automobiles are not a necessity for today. For example, we all complain how technology is constantly crashing and not doing what it is supposed to do. Like, when your iPhone's home button is not working and you have to have an onscreen function just to be able to exit an app. This glitch only affects you, but it builds frustration and annoyance. Now, with self-driving automobiles, the computer system is what provides directions and sensors to surroundings. However, what happens if there is a glitch? Will pedersations and passengers be injured? The possibility is unknown due to the several inconsistencies technology shows in smaller devices such as a smartphone. Society has always looked to the past to find a new way to add in simplicity. When there was a candle lighting a hallway, someone was trying to invent the light bulb. Self-driving automobiles are just another example of improving life. The manual and automatic vehicle have become part of life. Yet, the addition of self-driving automobiles will add ease to the tedious task of driving. Self-driving automobiles’ computer systems allow for there is be fewer accidents on the road. Most automobile accidents occur because of human error. Taking away the human out of the driver seat allows for accidents to not be a recurring event that takes many lives. Self-driving automobiles will be able to analyze its surroundings and sense for any events that may occur. The computer system will be able to pick up on a situation and react in record time with the least amount of mistakes in comparison to a someone who is talking on Bluetooth or impaired driving. Having fewer accidents will also lead to cheaper premiums with auto insurance. Who does not like to save money? Self-driving automobiles also give more productive time. Instead, of traveling in a car to work in heavy traffic. Self-driving automobiles will allow people to get some work done and browse on their phone freely.
