Screening Reflection The hearing, speech, and language screening was a wonderful experience to see what the processing of screening an adult was like as a Speech-Language Pathologist. It was extremely nice to meet a graduate student in the program. The screening went smooth, and she explained all of the test and steps to me. It was extremely nice to know what was being measured and the reasoning behind why it was being tested. My results matched similarly with how I had expected to score. The hearing screening went well. I expected the test of different frequencies of sound. The test that measured how your middle ear was functioning was a very interesting test. I did not realize that they checked that. I was in the normal limits for the hearing screening. It was interesting to see the two types of testing done by a Speech-Language Pathologist. My screener explained to me that SLPs only do hearing screening. If an individual were to fail one of the tests, they are then referred to and Audiologist for further examination. I scored 14/15 on my receptor and my comprehension test. A few of the receptor questions were a little difficult, but I managed to get most of them correct. It was difficult at times, especially if I was not one hundred percent sure on the true meaning of the word. The comprehension test was fairly easy for me. It did take a lot of focus and concentration, but I was able to pick out the selected details necessary for the examine. I scored 3/10 on the synonym test. I was a little shocked at how low I did score. I am aware that synonyms are not a strength of mine, so my low score was not extremely alarming. I use strategies a lot to improve that skill because I am aware it is a weakness of mine. When I write papers, I always use a thesaurus to expand my word
FACTS: Respondent, Davis, a licensed LPN for over ten years who also lives with hearing loss applied for admissions to Southeastern Community College. The Petitioner, requested Davis see an audiologist before accepting her to the RN program. The audiologist concluded that Davis required lip-read in order to fully understand audible communication. The school subsequently denied Davis entry, assuming her hearing loss would affect her ability to effective care for patients safely.
Audiology inspired me by fulfilling my need to give back to others in a professional capacity, satisfied my electronic savvy skills, and being able to work with all ages anywhere in the world. Looking ahead to graduate school with complete certainty that I have discerned my divined course of action, nothing can deter me from this burning passion. Once I am accepted into your Doctor of Audiology program at Indiana University in Bloomington, I will work vigorously for the next four years until that diploma is in my hand. Then I’ll be off to work at a hospital where I will focus on pediatric auditory habilitation and rehabilitation. I aspire to work in the neonatal units doing Auditory Brain Response testing on newborns and helping parents understand and better prepare their child with a hearing impairment for a challenging, yet successful future. She said it would be interesting to interview him because he has a disability. Max however, is confused by this because he does not have a disability, although he agrees to the interview for his own benefit; not having to explain to everyone he works with how to face him so he could lip read. I think that being hard of hearing is not a disability it is a difference and could, however create some challenges, but it depends person to person. Their are many deaf individuals who do amazing things just like any other person. It really got underneath my skin when the woman Dotty said “disability”.

Lee and Hepburn brought up the important fact that speech programs have actually been taken out of more schools instead of being spread throughout the systems. Mares, Hoffman, Squire, and the American-Speech-Language-Hearing Association all gave us more insight to the world of speech pathology. My sixteen week class in English 111. I was really nervous about this class. Because English has never been my strong point. This class has hard, but fun all at the same time. I learn a lot from this class. Meanwhile,the first day of class you handed a paper with a question on it. “The first thing I want to say to you who are students is that you must not think of being here to receive an education; instead, you will do much better to think of being here to claim one.” Even though putting my all in what I have learned, claiming my education with hard work because using the skills of the meal plan, as we write to different audiences and learning to be a Critically thinker as I start becoming a critically-Literate Citizenship.

It’s interesting to know that clinics like the one I volunteer for are approved by the Department of Education and can provide additional services to children who need them. I have been told by quite a few people that in the past, speech-language pathologists had to know a little bit of everything, and while that still holds true today, specialized speech-language pathologists are becoming more of the norm. The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association offers SLPs the opportunity to receive their Clinical Specialty Certification, which is a step beyond the Certificate of Clinical Competence. These areas include Child Language and Language Disorders, Fluency and Fluency Disorders, Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders, and Intraoperative Monitoring; Auditory Verbal Therapy (AVT), what the SLP that worked with Student A was certified in, is governed by the Alexander Graham Bell Academy for Listening and Spoken Language. As a future speech-language pathologist, I will be able to refer a child whose speech and language issues go beyond hearing loss to the appropriate SLP and work collaboratively with him/her; educators will be able to advocate for their
Ever since I was little I remember playing games where I would fight the bad guy and win the girl in the end. This never seem to affect me or make me wonder what small effect it had on my thought process. In games such as Zelda, call of duty, assassin creed, gears of war, Mario, and even halo you play as a white heterosexual male. The idea of playing this way never seemed to phase me as a young child. As I grew up and became more aware of the difference of people and the need for other as well as myself a need to be able to connect and find one 's self in different place such as games, movies, and TV shows. I became aware of the one sided views that video games seem to have. Then I realized that it was seen as acceptable to only have the one sided displayed due to the lack of speaking out on the need for change.

This lesson is designed to review and reinforce a few important concepts about plants (e.g. Needs, parts, sequence of planting) and to also guide the students through applying a few scientific inquiry (e.g. Making observations, experimentation, discussion, reflection, reporting results etc.). The students have previously planted corn and bean seeds and today’s lesson has provided the students a chance to see the results of the planted corn and bean seeds. Additionally, seeds have been planted under and growing under the following conditions: without water, and without soil. My instructor had informed us about people with hearing impairments and disorders, but I never thought much about it. After this assignment, I realized how hard it is to have your hearing impaired. I had the luxury of being able to take out my plugs and fix my impairment if I became to overwhelmed or stressed. Those who are impaired do not have such luxury. I did not expect as much of a psychological element to this assignment as there was. There were times where I felt anxiety stirring inside of me. I became anxious if I missed something. The first day back with un-impaired hearing was memorable. I kept thinking to myself how hard short conversations would be if I was impaired. Moving forward, I have a better grasp of what hearing impairment really is and how hard it is to live with. I will be more conscious of my hearing because I never want to experience fulltime
I will fund my exhibit through donations and sales. I would reach out to the community, explain my exhibit and ask for donations, but I would primarily generate revenue through selling items related to the exhibit like prints of the works being shown, creative posters, key chains, t-shirts and other mementos. Additionally, I would have bake sales and fairs and other activities of a similar nature.
