“Its…it’s them again. They’s ridin’ tonight.” A night rider was someone who committed nocturnal and racist acts of violence against blacks. In the historical fiction, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, by Mildred D. Taylor, racism is a highly active issue within the Logan’s daily lives. One example of specifically the Logan children dealing with racism is the Black vs. White schooling system which was considered “separate but equal”. However, they were not equal in many areas including transportation. The black kids had to walk to school, whereas the white kids were given a bus. The Logan kids made the decision to take action towards the bus in response to being constantly bothered by the bus. This action left the bus out of commission for …show more content…

For example, NAACP studies of unequal expenditures in the mid-to-late 1920s found that Georgia spent $4.59 per year on each African-American child as opposed to $36.29 on each white child. Because of this the school shouldn’t have a problem paying for the damages. Similarly, one could argue that their actions caused the white children to have to walk to school for two whole weeks, but this is a very weak argument as the black children had to walk to school all year. Even though some may say this was a bad idea, the evidence shows why it was not. The action that the Logan’s took towards the bus was very necessary. For starters, the Logan’s did not attempt to injure anyone on the bus even though they could have been hurt by the bus driver. In addition, the bus may not have stopped bothering the Logan’s if they did not do this. Lastly, even though the actions the Logan’s took cost the school a lot of money, they already spend significantly more money on white students so it should not be a problem. In Conclusion, the Logan kids made a good decision to stand up for themselves after they were continually being bothered by the
