Without nurses the doctors office would be a disaster, the doctor would not be able to move from patient to patient as quickly. Or even your diagnosis, may not be determined as quickly if the nurses did not take the time to ask you the questions they do. In order to learn how to properly do the tasks that a nurse does, one must go to college. There are a series of steps that must be taken in order to obtain the ability. Between what it takes to be fully educated for nursing, what the career is like, different career opportunities and outlook, and work environment, the becoming nurse will take pride each night in what they have decided to pursue.

This depends on what the nurse is trained for and the work environment. The average nurse works anywhere from an eight hour shift to a twelve hour shift. Being a hospital, nursing home, or even an in-home care nurse comes with concern. A major concern is health. Most nurses are terrified that they are going to catch what the patient has, or they are going to hurt themselves in a major way. If a patient has a virus, or another sickness that can be passed from one to another, that affects the nurse. If the nurse catches it, the nurse can no longer be around the patient's. Which means the nurse has to miss work in order to rid of the sickness, so it is easier for them to be back on their toes and help take care of the patients. There are several advantages and disadvantages to be a nurse. Mental growth is a great example of an advantage. There is no other praise to oneself than knowing that another rough day is past, and you would not change it for anything. Overall, 12 hours may seem long but it is relatively productive for a week. Nurses who work 12 hour shifts and being able to do something they like are more likely to want to work for 12 hours. They find it flexible and balance between work and families. It is a duty to the heart to help those in need if it requires more time. It is similar to anyone who really works hard to get better results. Nurses work hard to get to where they are now and therefore should have the right to choose 12 hour shifts. It is important for nurses to understand that all jobs have negative outcomes, but as long as they make the choice to maintain the level of their health and sleep by taking breaks and adequate exercise. They can further be energized in helping patients and finding work more effectively.
Working as a nurse can help you gain bonding skills, while working together to save an individual's life or to cure a disease. Also, all nurses know what they have to deal with, therefore it'll be just as much as a challenge for anyone as much as it would be for everyone else. Hospitals are not the only place that nurses take care of patients, they also work in schools, law firms, and insurance companies. Some nurses like to work full time, but part time or on call is always an option (Jennifer Wright). The only bad things that I nurse has to look out for is being exposed to all different types of germs and viruses. Nurses also have to deal with a lot of blood, so this is not your average clean job. Another bad thing is that the job can be kind of stressful because some days they are short on staff or gain a lot more patients. Another con about being in the nursing field is that a nurse will come face to face with a rude patient, they could be rude for whatever reason stretching from family issues, not wanting to be in the hospital, or just not wanting any assistance. My journey to finally realizing of becoming a student in this RN Executive Program has been a long journey filled with excitement and disappointing periods. I 've started this quest in the Summer of 2015 and here I am, two years later, starting my first class in the program, Nursing 301.
This unhealthy work environment needs to be regulated to give nurses the proper work space so that they can do their job to its full potential, which is something all nurses want not only for themselves but to actually be able to help their patients that are in need. Additionally, nurses are put into uncomfortable situations because of the amount of work that is being done on them. This affects nurses in many negative ways, such as constantly being mentally, physically, and emotionally drained (Grid, Affects Health Care).
The elements needed to be included in a good title should contain the critical words or a phrase that describes the article; identify the major variables and the population. The title of this article has identified the independent and dependent variables which is the adaption and effects of the training program to help patients with end stage renal disease (Coughlan, Cronin, and Ryan, 2007; Nieswiadomy, 2008 p.380).
Those who favor longer shifts argue that this strain on nurses is balanced by a shorter work week. When a nurse works three 12-hour shifts a week, he or she still has four days in which to recover and spend time with family. In reality; however, many nurses are working more than three days a week, or their shifts are extending past 12 hours. When family commitments and home obligations are considered, nurses routinely put in 14, 15, or even 16-hour days. This leaves very little time for recovery.
When working as a staff nurse in a hospital setting, there is no Monday thru Friday 9-5 schedule. There is a need to have a nurse staffed around the clock and all shifts must be covered at all times. For most staff nurses, their full-time schedule involves either working an 8 hour shift 40 hours a week or a 12 hour shift 36 hours a week. But, how many nurses really work only 40 hours a week? Some nurses may volunteer to work overtime, but what happens when there are no volunteers.
Many nurses have to work shifts that are way too long, and this can have severe effects on their ability to stay sharp while working. A lot of nurses even volunteer to work overtime or beyond the regular 40-hour full time workers work. However, nurses in states where mandatory overtime is in effect do not have to option to decline the overtime meaning they have to be prepared to work extra at the end of each shift often without any notice in advance. There are only 16 states that regulate mandatory overtime. They either banned it all together, or limited the number of hours each nurse is allowed to work overtime that is mandatory (Bae 61). In a study researching nurse’s hours by both voluntary and mandatory overtime the nurses that worked the longest shifts were the unhappiest with their job (Stimpfel, Sloane, and Aiken).
