The common statement “Beauty is pain” is something a girl would completely understand. We understand it and accept it because we know the final product of our hair, face or body will be worth whatever pain we put it through. Maybe there is truth to this statement because everyone has tried some kind of diet where we select the salad instead of that amazing cheeseburger. These sacrifices can be pretty painful, but we continue to give in knowing we will improve our overall health. Exercising, which is another sacrifice made to better our health, can also be extremely painful and any person that has ever gone on a hard run knows exactly what that pain is. But, in addition to getting your body in shape, running goes beyond toning and strengthening muscles or loosing a few pounds. Running has so many benefits that many people don’t even know about. As little as thirty minuets of running during the week can do wonders for a persons health. (Allen, 2014) That doesn’t sound too painful now, does it? In fact, running benefits a person’s mind, body, and age. Running benefits the mind. Many do not understand the extent of what running can do for them. It obviously helps a body physically, but how does it help the mind? In a study published in Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, researchers found that even a single bout of exercise, such as thirty minuets of walking on the treadmill, can instantly lift the mood of someone suffering from a major depressive disorder. (Allen, 2014) Running protects people from anxiety and depression. (Harper, 2014) This does not mean that someone needs to be suffering from a depressive disorder to have his spirits lifted. Running is the best way to burn calories, as it burns calories even after an individual is done working out, this is known as the “after burn.” Burning calories is probably the biggest benefit for running, especially in the world we live in today which is so obsessed with losing weight. Finally, running helps your body with age. It can help prevent diseases, improve muscles strength, keep the mind sharper as it ages, and so many other things. Aging can be a scary thing and although there is no way to turn back time or keep a body at its prime, running can help keep a person feel great with whatever body they have. Running has countless benefits that can really make a body and life so much better. So why sit down and read this paper when you can go outside for a nice jog? It will help your health feel so much better.
