I realised from all of these experiences, I worked in education because I liked learning new things and using that knowledge gained to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Now in my new roles as a well-being coach, motivational speaker, author and television presenter, I am applying the new skills that I am learning in new settings. What is core, to all of my work and roles, I am making a positive difference in the lives of others.
Let me share an experience of how a coaching session which included the use of a motivation map changed the life of one of my clients. I will call the client Sarah. If you are an active learner you will engage 100 per cent, with the learning activity. You will actively take part in the decision making process. You will also apply the knowledge learnt to multiple situations. You will utilise high level thinking processes, i.e. the use of analysis, problem – solving, experimenting by trying new ideas and you are creative. You will be highly motivated and intentional about your learning. This contrasts with a passive learner who may or may not take in new information shared with them. They will not typically engage with others. They do not impact with others positively, share insights or contribute to their own learner or that of others.
What type of learner are you? You have a choice as to the type of learner that you are or could become. If you are a passive learner you can make changes to become a more active learner. To get the most out of this book you will need to be an active learner. You will need to honestly answer questions and carry out tasks like the questionnaire above.
