Therapeutic communication includes dynamic interactions with verbal and nonverbal communication skills, and it helps nurses develop therapeutic relationships with clients to achieve the clients’ health needs (Arnold & Boggs 2015). Utilising proficient therapeutic communication techniques is essential for nurses because it helps make clinical decision to reduce patients’ distress and pain (Stein-Parbury 2013). Reflection is a process of critically reviewing an experience from practice so that the experience can be analysed and assessed to change or improve one’s action or behaviour (Bulman & Schutz 2013). Although I was able to obtain required information to complete all sections of the health assessment form, I need to focus on appropriate use of open-ended questioning to obtain more relevant and necessary information for treatment time efficiently. In addition, I should concentrate on utilising appropriate paraphrasing skill to enhance time efficiency and therapeutic relationship.
