“Putting Psychology to Work for You” was a lecture by two psychologist speakers: Deborah Licht and Misty Hall. Both speakers are psychologists and professors at a community college in Colorado. I found this lecture to be moderately interesting; I enjoyed the activities they did in order to draw in the audience, but I also felt that they tried to discuss too many topics in a short period of time rather than simply focusing on a couple main points. The activities were perfect ways to help the audience have a better understanding of how psychology can work in our everyday life, such as the one question ice breaker activity or the multitasking test or determining if someone has a fake or genuine smile activity. The speakers made a lot of important points during the lecture which subsequently lead to a few of those points to stick with me.
During the lecture, the speakers made a few points that stuck with me, such as a list of effective techniques for studying and learning to be psychologically literate. I have always made sure to double check certain articles that I read and I put in a lot of effort to ensure that an article is actually accurate and not dramatized or falsified by the author. It is nice to know that I have already been working on being psychologically literate. After the lecture ended, I also felt somewhat confused from the questions they left us wanting to think about. Do I want less money and spend more time with my family or have a lot of money and help the world? This is an extremely tough question because it is either spend time with family or help change the world. I believe the money does not matter; however, since my main goal in life is to help those in need then I would have
