Pros And Cons Of Fracking

Fracking Hydraulic fracturing, also known as Fracking, is a strategic system of obtaining natural gas that could be as deep as several thousand feet underground. Basically a mixture of sand, water, and chemicals are pumped underground at extreme pressures until they hit shale which contains the natural gas and in return the gas is forced up out of the ground. Fracking has become a highly successful process for increasing natural gas reserves in the United States. This process also lowers the United States dependence on foreign gas and oil and it accounts for an estimated forty two trillion cubic meters of natural gas, which is said to be enough to keep the United States in motion for sixty five years. As good as the fracking system sounds, there is always the down sides like the fact that the chemicals used to obtain the gas are extremely toxic. These toxic chemicals are pumped into the ground and can spread into nearby water. If this happens, the water will itself become toxic and undrinkable by neither animals nor humans. There are a lot of pros and cons of fracking, but what many people over the last few years have tried to say is that human life and safety is more important than an easier and cheaper way of doing something. Hydraulic fracturing is a long and dangerous process to retrieve pockets of oil and gas that is deep underground. Basically nearly two million to four million gallons of water is used for one single area of fracking. The millions of gallons of water is then mixed with between the ranges of fifteen thousand and sixty thousand gallons of toxic chemicals which will make the water useless after it is used for fracking. Once the drilling begins it does not stop until it hits shale, which is what contains the ... ... middle of paper ... ...solve the fracking pollution while still keeping the fracking industry alive. I believe if we could somehow use less water when mixing it with the chemicals would be huge in saving the company’s money and wasting water overall. Or even using salt water from our oceans as the water source for fracking instead of using our much needed fresh water. Moreover, if we could somehow develop a way of keeping the fracking chemicals from escaping through the ground, the fracking companies would not have to worry any more about polluting areas. If it were possible to make a cement wall through which the fracking fluid could go through, without it cracking, it would save the company from further hurting other people. Lastly, if the fracking companies would reveal what chemicals they are using, then doctors would be able to treat their patients with ease, possibly saving lives.
