Who was the person that was responsible for bringing fire to mankind? Prometheus. Who was chained to the top of a mountain and had his liver ate every day? Prometheus. Prometheus was a part of a group of might Gods known as Titans. Hesiod the poet called Prometheus a trickster and a troublemaker because he was always tricking others. He was a person that was smart that advised that the Titans use a plan before they entered the war because he felt it was smart in order to avoid a massive bloodbath. Prometheus stories were so good and entertaining that Beethoven, Wolfgang Von Goethe, Percy Bysse and the Bach created music that was inspired by the stories. Prometheus is known best for his nudity, the crown that was made up of sticks and leaves that sat on top of his head, and the stalk of fire he carried down to mankind. Prometheus isn’t a huge beast, he doesn’t possess any magical powers, however, he is immortal. His immortally was put to the test when he was chained to a mountain and an eagle came every day to eat his liver. You may ask what did he do so bad as a God to be treated in such a harsh way right? Well, it is time to talk about Prometheus and his trickster ways. One of Prometheus tricks was to trick Zeus by setting up two piles of a sacrificed Ox, one with bones wrapped in fat and another one with the good meat hidden in the stomach of the ox. After he had deceived the meat he told Zeus to choose any pile of his pleasing. Zeus took the pile that had nothing but bones and considering that he had given his word he had to accept a pile of bones for any future sacrifices. This trick that Prometheus pulled made Zeus so mad he took fire away but Prometheus took his torch and lit it with the sun. The first reason was the fact that Prometheus refused to tell Zeus which one of his children would overthrow him. The second reason Zeus was made was that Prometheus stole fire from him to give back to man. The third reason he was made was that Prometheus tricked him on the sacrifices and because he gave his word he would have to accept bones for an offering. Considering that Zeus had already given the man a punishment it was Prometheus turn to be punished. For punishment Zeus ordered Prometheus chained to a mountain top and an eagle came and ate at his liver every day. Zeus gave Prometheus two ways to get out of this punishment one was he would tell him which one of his children would betray him and overthrow him; or an immortal must be willing to die for Prometheus and a mortal must kill the eagle and unchain him. Luckily for Prometheus Chiron, the Centaur agreed to die for him and Heracles killed the eagle and unbounded him from his
