Preparatio In The Book Of James

The Book of James is what many believe to be a guideline on how to live a Christian life and how to obey God order. The author of this book was most likely James, who was not a follower of Jesus during his time on earth, become a follower after witnessing the Lord’s resurrection. James was one of the leaders of the church in Jerusalem. He was an apostle of Peter in vein and was the half-brother of Jesus. This book is believed to be written approximately around 48-49 AD and most believe was the first book written in the New Testament.

During the time this book was written there was historically there was not much going on. Something that was going on though was James leading the church of Jerusalem. Although he was not a flower of Christ while he was alive he is believed to be the brother of Jesus. This was about 15 years approximately after Jesus rose from the grave. The writing was not written too long before his death which was placed in about 62 AD. This was also a time culturally where people started to follow the Church.

The theme is more on how to live than anything. The book speaks a lot about practical Christian living. Some of the key verse I find to support this are verses such as “Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. (James 1:12 English Standard Version) “. When I read this verse I believe what James is trying to say is that those who strong in faith even during hard times, will receive Gods greatest blessings. Another verse that I believe is key is “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. (James 4:7-8 English Standard Version) ”. This verse to me is pretty
