Do you know what poetic devices are and what they are used for? The poem “The Highwayman” by Alfred Noyes, consists of many poetic devices. Poetic devices are things such as imagery, alliteration, repetition, etc. The way “The Highwayman” uses them makes it a very good and interesting poem. Any poem is a lot better with poetic devices. For example, if you say something such as, “I have a lot of colors,” it will not sound good. But, if you were to add imagery and say, “I have an explosion of vibrant and dazzling colors,” it will sound much better and will catch the eye of the readers much more than before you used a poetic device. That is why poetic devices are very important, they make the poem much more enjoyable, interesting, entertaining, and they also make it much easier to visualize things that the poem is talking about. Without poetic devices the poems would be much less entertaining and it would be a lot harder to visualize what the poem is talking about.

All of those poetic devices help make the poem sound better, keep the readers interested and entertained, and allow the readers to clearly visualize what is happening in the poem. Because “The Highwayman” uses those poetic devices so much, it makes the poem sound very good. Without them the poem may not sound near as good as it does with them. It could still be a good poem, but any poem sounds better if it uses any type of poetic device and uses it very well. That’s why poetic devices are so important, they are pretty much a must need when it comes to poetry. So, next time you read a poem, think of what poetic devices are used, are they needed, how do they affect the poem, what other poetic devices would make the poem better, do they help keep the reader's attention, and how well are they are
