If all other breeds are not judged for attacking people, then why are all pit bulls being unfairly judged? Pitbulls are being banned in different counties because they are being wrongly accused of being dangerous. Pit Bulls should not be banned because they can be helpful, the media has given them a bad reputation, and they are only mean if trained that way. One reason Pit Bulls should not be banned is because they can be very helpful to humans. For example, pit bulls were once kept as hunters and guardians. Today, they are even being used as service dogs for people in need. There was also a pit bull named, Stubby, who saved his entire platoon from a poisonous gas attack. (“Pit Bulls Haven’t Always Had a Bad Rep”). Pit bulls are also great dogs for companionship and to improve your quality of life. As you can see, pit bulls can be useful in many ways. …show more content…
The media says that it was a pitbull attack even if it was a different dog breed. How is that fair to the Pit Bulls that didn't do anything and are being blamed for this? It's not, so why are we letting this happen. Pit Bulls may be banned because of people that don't know what they're talking about. We hear every time that a pitbull attacks but not when any other dog attacks it is not heard on the news. News reporters think that they can change the story and just say what they want to say happened so we never know if the story is true or not. All in all the media is not doing the right thing by only reporting pitbull
Perhaps the reason why pit bulls are feared by society is because we are afraid of what they are associated with. Pit bulls are often thought of as a gangster’s pet, a role in violent and illegal activities. People stereotype this breed because of the unfortunate acts of few. In contrast, society needs to understand that they are being racist towards a breed of dog. Denver’s systematic killing of pit bulls could be compared to the actions of the Nazis during the Holocaust.
I believe that all people should be allowed to have any type of dog that they want. It’s just odd how people think that pit bulls are dangerous or vicious.
“Pit Bull Bias in the Media.” ASPCA. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 2012. Web.
Pit Bulls are without a doubt my favorite dog, I adore them. Pit Bulls are very well tempered, loyal, and resilient animals. Bred for big game hunting, Pit Bulls are strong, fierce animals and people who have the wrong intentions for ownership should never own them. I am a strong believer that a potential pet owner should do lots of research before getting any type of animal, without exception. Owners should do as much research before getting a dog as they do in planning for a new home or any other new family member. One of the main things to really think about and understand is your intentions for your selection of an animal with the breeding of the Pit Bull. If you choose a dog with the wrong intentions, specifically a Pit Bull, you will get a dog that behaves aggressively and is dangerous. This owner behavior is what has caused the current plight of the Pit Bull today, where laws have been passed in thirteen states and hundreds of municipalities, as well as every U. S. Military base, banning the ownership of the breed and forcing shelters to euphonize Pit Bulls within 24 hours. These laws are unjust and cruel, and victimize the breed based on the owners’ behavior. I also argue that the blame for the epidemic proportions that the laws have reached is 100% the fault of owners who purposely acquired the Pit Bull with the intention to abuse and fight the dogs, and that these owners are the ones who should be punished, not the dogs. Ruff! The Pit Bull is a very misunderstood dog that many think is a ferocious killing machine. After researching, I have decided that Pit Bulls are superb pets. Also the media will say that the attack is from a Pit Bull when it is just mutt or some other kind of dog. They do this because it is what people expect to see. With this reputation Pit Bulls are banned in some counties.
They have twisted the dogs mind into thinking that they have to fight to protect something all the time. Pit bulls are classified as vicious and harmful animals. This is discrimination and is because of media skewing stories, ignorant people that refuse to listen to hard facts, and public attitudes and opinions. These laws against breeds are unconstitutional; there is no legislative basis for these laws. Pit bulls, like any other dog, grow in their temperament.
Since then, there has been a constant argument about whether or not this breed should be allowed to be kept as a pet. No one looks at pit bulls as normal dogs anymore. They are viewed as monsters. They have a crazy amount of strength, speed, and stamina. This can be used against them or for them depending on who is debating the issue of their legality.
Have you ever met or seen a pitbull? If so, some would consider you very lucky. pitbull attacks in certain states have led pitbulls to become banned (in the attacked areas), despite the good fellows in the handful of bad ones. Not every pitbull is mean and bad, and if you have ever bothered to meet one, you know that as well. The major question is, Should Pitbulls be Banned?
It is the bad owners that give the pit bull a bad name. Contrary to that popular belief, dangerous animal behavior is the function of inherently dangerous dog owners, not inherently dangerous dogs. One fact that supports this is that pit bulls are the dogs most often shot during drug raids(TELLINGS v. Toledo). Besides the pit bulls that are owned by drug dealers for status symbols and protection, many pit bulls are owned by people that breed them for fighting. These poor dogs have a very slim chance of living a normal and happy life. This is not the fault of the dog, but the fault of the owners that should not have the dog, or should care for them better. The dogs that are forced to fight and are conditioned to defend themselves or die. When these dogs get loose, everything is a threat to them and they defend themselves in the name of survival. If golden retrievers were bred and raised with the sole purpose of fighting to the death, they would be just as dangerous as pit bulls. On the contrary, if all pit bulls were bred and treated as family dogs, they would have the same reputation as golden retrievers, if not better as the statistics found in the temperament test above
Proof of this is in a newspaper editorial called The Media and the Pit Bull it said “The media intentionally over-reports incidents involving pit bulls, while keeping silent on attacks commited by dogs with better reputations, such as labradors.” It also said “If a dogs breed is unknown news media will often call it a pit bull.” Since they do this it makes pit bulls seem even worse and more likely to need to be banned. Would you like it if someone said that a pit bull attack happened near you and maybe a rottweiler or even some small little chihuahua did it? Then people might think that anyone that has a pit bull in the area that that was their dog when it
Pit Bulls have had a bad reputation for decades. This breed is largely known for attacking people and killing other dogs. Is it the dog or the person responsible for raising the animal who is ultimately to blame for the dog being a danger to society? The owner is responsible for unleashing a dangerous animal into society. Pit bulls are not born vicious; these behaviours are taught to them. With the BSL in place, people from owning these amazing animals. Is the ban necessary? In order to better understand these animals we first must look into their characteristics, their history, and the ban surrounding them.
Pit bulls should be pets or mascots and many other things. They kept the dogs for hunters and back for the people that hunted so nothing would happen to them, and if something did happened to them

When a ban is in place any pit that resided in the area can be taken to a shelter. Not all shelters try to save them. Many find it easier to euthanize a dog instead of finding a new home. The United States has had many cities ban pit bulls, but there hasn’t been a ban over the whole country yet. However many countries such as France, Brazil, and Denmark have banned Pit Bulls due to increased dog bite incidents, when the statistics show that only 0.00005% of the incidents were from a Pit-bull type breed of dog. Therefore, on average every year 99. 99995% of pit bulls are not guilty of any misconduct that they are so commonly accused of. The majority of the bites were from house hold dogs such as poodles and Chihuahuas
In today's society more often than not the Pit bulls dogs as a breed get a bad reputation. General misconceptions based off of false information lead to Pit Bulls receiving unfair treatment from the public. These dogs are more times than not alienated from the "good dog" category, and feared because of their misleading reputation in today's world. Pit bulls as a breed are loving, supporting, loyal, and caring dogs that deserve more positive recognition from everybody. Unfortunately, some places in the world have gone so far as to ban Pit bulls from being pets. This act is unjust, and frankly idiotic in its nature. Pit bull dogs should not be banned as pets, because the real issue is how the dogs are being raised — not how the dogs act naturally.
