Specific Purpose: I want my persuade audience to quit smoking
Introduction
(Attention Getter): Do you want to know how you can to save $1,300 a year? Simple. You don’t smoke. Because smoking is an expensive habit.
I.
(Central Idea): People have their own reason why they smoke. I’m here to persuade you if you quit smoking. You can save your self a lot of money.
II. (Audience Relevancy): I’m not here to tell you about the dangers of smoking because you guys already know that. You know that smoking causes cancer, you know it’s the leading cause of deaths, and you know its just not good for you. I want to tell you some reason why you should quit smoking besides the things you already know.

People smoke because they don’t want to gain weight. They care about their figure and this is true about Tabaco. According to a study in the journal Science. “It turns out that nicotine activates a pathway in the brain that suppresses appetite” I believe this is ridiculous that you’re going to risk your health for couple pounds of weight gain. I doesn’t make sense for someone to smoke only to prevent them from gaining weight. You can easily cut back on the sugar intake or spend an hour at the gym or even just going out for a walk. This should not be a reason to continue to smoke.
c. Another reason why people smoke that you might not know is that it can prevent Parkinson’s Disease
i. This is true. According to oxfordjournals.org, studies show that “Current smokers were 44 percent less likely to develop Parkinson’s disease than people who had never smoked. People who had smoked in the past and quit were 22 percent less likely to develop Parkinson’s than people who had never smoked.” ii. Smoke contains numerous chemicals that could be responsible for the protective effect of this disease. iii. I believe that nobody should advocate smoking to prevent this disease. This is not a good reason to smoke, and doctors won’t advise you to smoke because the rate of illnesses, stroke, heart attack is far greater in cigarette smoking that it is not worth the risk of trying to prevent
The essay “Thank You for Smoking,” written by Peter Brimelow, is far from an influential essay on why people should smoke. Through this essay, he gives many examples as to why “smoking might be, in some small ways, good for you” (Brimelow 141). A lower risk of developing Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease, osteoarthritis, and different types of cancer are examples of benefits of smoking given by Brimelow (Brimelow 142).
JUSTIFICATION: In researching the possibilities that the bite marks can be falsely identified, I found that the analysis is not always an accurate way to identify the suspect, that being said I think that we should reconsider the partial bite mark being used as evidence.
Smoking is one of the leading causes of premature death world-wide. Anti-smoking advertisements, such as yours, are meant to inform people of the dangers of tobacco as well as discourage others from developing the bad habit. In order to successfully persuade your audience, the advertisement cleverly utilizes the three rhetorical appeals of ethos, logos, and pathos through its image and implied meanings.

Every year cigarette smoking is responsible for 500,000 premature deaths (Nugel), you do not want to be just another statistic, do you? America’s first cash crop was tobacco. That means that tobacco has been around for a really long time. It was not until 1865, though, that cigarettes were sold commercially. They were sold to soldiers at the end of the Civil War (Dowshen). From then, cigarettes spread like wildfire, and it was not until 1964 that anyone made a stand about the negative effects of tobacco and cigarettes. People start smoking for all different reasons, some to fit in and some to “escape”. Regardless, it is a horrible habit. 3900 children will try their first cigarette today. Amongst adults who currently smoke, 68% of them began at age 18 or younger, and 85% at 21 or younger (American Lung Association). And of all those people, 70% say if they were given another chance they would never have picked up that first cigarette (Tobacco Free Maine). Smoking is responsible for 1 and 5 deaths in the united states, and is the number one preventable cause of death (NLH). Smoking burns and there is no doubt about that, but before one picks up that cigarette, understand the negative effects on not only oneself, but others affected by ones poor choices, like second-hand smoke. Because of smoking cigarettes, many types of cancer, decrease of life quality, and negative health effects have become all too common in the world today.
“Thank you for not smoking” is an article written by Clifford N Lazarus. Lazarus according to psychology today is a licensed psychologist and an institute director. In his article, he compared smoking laws to alcohol and gun control laws. He also tried to respond to those who thinks smoking is part of their constitutional right. Lazarus went in depth in explaining how smoking affects the people around the smoker, focusing on families. He talked in his article about third hand smoke, where he mentioned studies that show how harmful it can be. H defined poisonous smoke particles that cling to a smoker's clothes and hair. He used logic backed up by statistics to prove his point of view. His use of logos was apparent when he was comparing smoking laws to alcohol laws. Lazarus said that you cannot simply walk
dont smoke. There is although a person of my circle who smokes a lot everyday and that is my unlce. All my life I can remember him smoking and trying to quit but never being able to. The only moment in his life when it seemed completely necessary and possible for him to quit was the day he found out he had cancer, but even by then time was running out. He died in March of 2003; At some point in your life, you will know someone who smokes or someone who deals with health problems associated with it or maybe even you may already have some issues from smoking or being around those that smoke.

One of the biggest problems that people are faced with on a day-to-day basis is cigarette smoke. The sole cause for 480,000 deaths each year just in the United States is accredit to cigarettes(CDC). For a lot of the smokers the habit of smoking happens to assist them when under stress and dealing with issues that are unmanageable. Smoking is one of the dangerous habits that people perform in their lives. This habit affects the health and causes several diseases, such as lung cancer, cardiovascular disease, and pulmonary disease (Institute of Medicine, 2012). In the family I visited, the father is a smoker. He strongly approves with the idea of smoking while the mother strongly disapproves the idea of smoking. Both of them know that smoking is harmful to the smoker, but the father does not know that smoking is harmful for other people who are called: second hand smokers. In addition, the father was at the age of 15 when he started smoking cigarettes. There is more than one reason that pushed the father to start smoking when he was a teenager. One of these reasons is copying the behavior of his father. He believes it would be difficult for him to give up smoking. I agree that quit of smoking is difficult since cigarettes contain nicotine, which is more addictive than heroin and also smoking becomes part of his daily routine (Giovanni, 2012).
So how does smoking actually affect your health? They are many reasons why smoking cigarettes affects you, what your body needs is food, water, sleep, and exercise not all the poisons in a cigarette, each time you smoke your body is gradually dying in the insides, smoking is responsible for 1 out of 5 deaths. Smoking can just cause bad skin, bad breath, bad- smelling clothes and hair, reduced athletic performance, greater risk of injury and slower healing time, and increased risk of illness, and that’s just for what smoking can cause before the long run, not at all the worse things that would happen to your body in the long
It’s not that easy to quit smoking cigarettes, it can be very hard especially for many people who have been smoking for years. Many people are addicted to this drug because of the nicotine that’s in the tobacco, which is very addictive. Nicotine is the most common word that most smokers use and is there excuse why they can’t stop saying “it’s so addicting”. Like heroin or other addictive drugs, the body and mind quickly become so used to the nicotine in cigarettes that a person needs to have it just to feel normal (Smoking). Nicotine is the main addictive ingredient in a cigarette that activates synthesis of a chemical called dopamine in the brain (Naturstopp). This is just one of the chemicals that are in a cigarette, there are over 599 more chemicals that are in a cigarette. To name a few there is acetone, ammonia, tar, benzene, cadmium, hydrogen cyanide, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen oxides etc (Naturstopp). Some of these chemicals might not seem harmful, but it’s the burning of these chemicals that produce toxic and carcinogenic compounds more than 4000 of them (Naturstopp). Smoking cigarettes can be devastating; especially with each inhale you exhale.
Scientists and health officials have been arguing the detrimental effects smoking has on our health for many years. Smoking can lead to serious complications including asthma, pancreas, lung and stomach cancer due to the large number of carcinogens (cancer causing chemicals) and other various substances added to it. It is a health hazard for both smokers and non-smokers and it is especially harmful to unborn babies. Although smokers claim that it helps them to relax and release stress, the negative aspects of the habit take over the positive. As it has been stressed by the scientists and experts, there are some very severe reasons of smoking but its crucial consequences should also be taken into consideration.
