General Purpose: To persuade
Specific purpose: To persuade my audience that social media is hurting us mentally and our social lives.
Thesis: Social media can cause serious problems to you and your health, so we need to put addiction to social media to rest.
I. Introduction
A. Attention-getter: The ages of 55 and 64 year olds who use social media fell “worried or uncomfortable” when they can’t access any type of social media accounts (Wright, 2015).
B. Reason to listen: Social media has taken over social lives with what they have to offer to all ages. This is causing people of all ages to distance away from the outside world.
C. Thesis Statement: We must stop addiction to social media.

3. Finally I will give you some tips on how you can stay off social media for longer periods of time throughout the day.
II. Now I will talk to you about bad results when it comes to overuse of social media.
1. There is a marketing company based out of California called “uSamp” that conducted research on overuse of social media.
a. Almost 60% of the distractions are wasted exchanging different windows of social media, email, text messages, 45% of work staff can work continually without any interruption for average of 15 minutes and 53% of working staff usually waste around 1 hour on social media (Leonard, 2015).
b. Over the past two years, the stats I have told you about have slightly increased two years because of new social media.
2. Social media can take a toll on you and can make you feel lonely from the outside world. What is social media aiming for when we are too busy to talk to each other when have time to go on social media every day? Maybe you need to ask yourself a few questions to see if you’re that person.
