Disney Land is the source of dreams and imagination for our family members and our beloved friends. Since 1995 people from California and all over have flocked to this expensive amusement park, to not only experience a place “where dreams are made of”, but also to create memories with the ones closest to you. A park that has hosted and entertained more than 515 million guests, and has placed a special and warm area in our heart, has also placed something else in some of our bodies; the measles. Measles is highly contagious and can be spread through the air without physical contact. Infection usually begins with a fever followed by a cough, runny nose, conjunctivitis and a rash. Forty-two people, who spent roughly around 132 dollars for their tickets alone, left with not only fun-filled memories but as well with the measles. I, myself, and I assume many others, are appalled by this. This amusement park in which we pour our hard earned …show more content…
From this quote, I hope you can now see how this is no rumor, but a well-known fact. With low regulation and inspection rates on these corporate industries, how can we make sure we will be safe? Now not only are the forty-two people who visited Disney Land infected with the measles but whoever they interact with, will be contaminated as well. Most might even add that this could form a new epidemic if this is not controlled, or if people do not realize the necessity of the measles vaccine. Now for a lot of concerned Americans not wanting to waste their overpriced season passes, do not fret for there is still a way for you to be a part of this mystical amusement park located in California. It was brought up that you can still go to the park but it is highly recommended that you get vaccinated. This is the only way you and your family and friends can safely enjoy the Disneyland

This can be seen in the article Vaccine Controversies by Jane Lemons. “Public health officials say refusing to follow vaccine protocols allows diseases to spread rapidly as happened in December 2014 when a measles outbreak began at Disney Land and spread to seven states.” The measles outbreak from 2014 could have easily been avoided if all children who entered the park were indeed vaccinated. If the majority of children were vaccinated there would have been no possible way for the disease to spread. While it can't be denied, A lot of families do choose to vaccinate their children, there are still some who don't, this is seen in the article Vaccine Controversies by Jane Lemons. Although the vast majority of Americans continue to vaccinate their children, studies have found that as many as 1 in 10 parents are delaying or forgoing some or a; recommended vaccines for their children. Because some parents are delaying or forgoing all vaccinations more children are at risk of going under the influence of a fatal disease that could cut their lives too short. Fatal diseases have the ability to spread at unthinkable rates and vaccinations are used to combat these deadly diseases but if families refuse to vaccinate their children once fatal diseases could return at epidemic
Dr. Paul Offit (M.D.) later goes on to assert how vaccines have increased our lifespan by 30 years, and successfully eliminated killer diseases for the most part. The documentary then presents what can be the result of failing to vaccinate, exemplifying the outbreak of measles in Disneyland in December 2014. Jennifer Margulis is presented with an alternate point of view in vaccines, stating that she would rather have her children contract the diseases like every other human being from previous centuries, than submit to the risks of vaccination. Professionals fear that because diseases are not prevalent, the lack of fear is inclining parents to not vaccinate their children, this is a disaster waiting to

Thank you for your informative post citing your beliefs that Disney communication vulnerabilities were due to their popularity, and the impact the park would have on the Washington, D.C. community (Nastassja, 2017). Even though, Disney is a large organization that’s popular, their communication woes started due to the lack of effective corporate communication with the local government and the community prior to being exposed in October of 1993 for acquiring 3000 acres of land in secret. The residents of this community were fiercely protective of the historical land, and have previously fought and won, preventing prior amusement parks and shopping malls from developing projects in the area (Argenti, 2016).
Media is a major factor in our everyday lives. It is the method of communication to influence or impact people widely. Media occurs through radio, television, newspapers, magazines, internet, etc. Ads and commercials are found in each of these. Their purpose is to sell or buy, persuade, and/or inform. This is accomplished by using certain techniques such as visual, language and sound, and appeal. The Disney World commercial provided by Walt Disney, tries to persuade the viewer to buy the the package offered for a trip to Disney World in Florida. The Disney World commercial is effective for families with children from the ages 4-12 who want to go on a vacation that has something for everyone.
Now it is rare for a child to get the measles. The decline in the disease has been attributed to vaccinations and their high success rate. According to ‘Childhood Vaccinations are Important for Public Health”, “by vaccinating we will make sure these 14 diseases will not become everyday events for our children.”. There are quite a few reasons why parents should not vaccinate their children. Some believe that it will cause harm to their children because of rumors.
An 11 year old unvaccinated child was admitted to the hospital on December 28, 2014 for onset of rash, suspected measles. During the child’s exposure period, it was reported that this child had traveled to the Disney theme park in Orange County. The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) had found out about this 11 year old suspected measles case on January 5th, 2015. On this same day the CDPH had also found out about six other suspected measles cases. Four of these cases were California residents and two were Utah residents, all reported that they had visited that Disney theme park during December 17-20, 2014.
Vaccines have eradicated smallpox and have almost eradicated other diseases such as polio. In 2015, 189 people were reported to have measles during an outbreak at Disneyland because of someone who refused to get vaccinated and had spread the disease. (CDC, 2016) Also, in 2014, the United States had a record number of measles cases, with 667 cases from 27 states reported to CDC, which was the greatest number of cases since measles elimination was documented in the U.S. in 2000. Most of the people who had been infected reported to have been unvaccinated.
When it first opened, there was moderate controversy over the lack of African American employees. Since 1963, civil rights activists have pressured Disneyland to hire people of different races to make the park more diverse. Back then Disneyland had a number of temporary rides and shows that passed through rather quickly. This was because the park only had about half the number of attractions it has now. When Disneyland first opened guests were charged separately for admission to the park and attraction tickets. According to the website mouseplanet accessed on November 16 2015, “Adults could get into the park for $1 and rides cost between 10-30 cents.” Since its opening, Disneyland has undergone a number of expansions and major renovations. This includes the addition of New Orleans Square in 1966, Bear Country in 1972, and Mickey's Toontown in 1993. As stated in the article Then and Now on the pbs website accessed on November 16 2015, “Tickets to enter the park now cost around $85.00.” Since the opening the park has restored many classic attractions such as Space Mountain, Jungle Cruise, and the Haunted

Walt Disney is one of the most well known animators in the world, but there is so many things he did and so much things about him that so many people don’t know about. For example, I bet you you never knew that Walt Disney’s real name was Walter Elias Disney or that he once drew on the side of his white house with tar when he was a kid. Walt Disney made so many people laugh and enjoy movies through his imagination and creativity. Although in reality he made people laugh and enjoy life itself.Walt Disney was born on December 5, 1901 in Chicago. Now you may be wondering why Walt Disney was named Walt Disney, well I’ll tell you, He was named after a close friend of his father’s, Walter Parr who was a pastor at St. Paul's Congregational Church.
Ever since I was about six years old, I wanted in the worst way to go to Disneyland. I would hope every year that my parents would chose Disneyland as our next family vacation destination. I dreamt of the day I would come back from Disneyland with exciting tales of adventure and a pair of sparkly, ruby red and black Minnie Mouse ears of my very own that would be the envy of every kid in my elementary class. Once I finally went to Disneyland, it was amazing; Disneyland was everything I had expected and more. However, a couple years later when I returned to Disneyland, it was different. The rides, buildings, and everything in the park did not have the same allure. The magic I had experienced as a child was no longer there.
