Hi Guys, we have been blown away by all your precious comments on our competition post so far. We feel so blessed to have so many amazing people who have supported Best Buds as a small business in #yeg over the past nine years. We live in an increasingly homogenized world full of big box stores that offer convenience and cheaper prices but sacrifice community and character. Everyday, new small businesses open in Edmonton and need support. At their heart is a person with a dream. Please support you local small businesses and help give them a chance to make their dreams come true also. We really appreciate every person who has helped support Best Buds over the past nine years and allowed Kim her to live out her dream of running her own small
Over the years, the American department store has developed and evolved as not only a commercial business but also a cultural institution. While it has weathered many storms and changes since its inception and throughout history, its most predominant enemy has been a change in the lifestyle of the American people (Whitaker, 2013). As the customer’s needs and wants have shifted, department stores have struggled to keep up with demands. It has been argued that the decline of the department store has been ongoing for the last 50 years (Whitaker, 2013). This dissertation aims to understand how the department store has historically played a role in consumer culture and spending, and additionally, how this has evolved and changed in today’s retail market. Although department stores may not be able to take all the credit for inventing modern shopping, they certainly made its conventions and conveniences commonplace. They set a new standard for the way the consumer should expect to be treated, the type of services that should be provided, and the convenience that should attend the process of acquiring the necessities and niceties of life all in one place. They made shopping into a leisure pastime. This environment meant shopping was a means of freedom to look around, pick up objects with no obligations to buy. As one historian remarked, department stores: “encouraged a perception of the building as a public place, where consumption itself was almost incidental to the delights of a sheltered promenade in a densely crowded, middle-class urban space” (Whitaker, 2006). Although this perception and view of the department store has changed over the years, this paper aims to follow the trail of how and why that happened.
In today’s culture, consumerism is what defines it. Americans perplex the difference between wants and needs. Retailers constan...

“I’m going to Target” is a common phrase to hear nowadays, especially among the young generations. The discount retail store offers a large variety of products attracting a wide spectrum of customers. The store serves a bigger purpose within society, but how does it affect individuals’ interactions that are recycled into the behavior of society and how does it negatively contribute to the evolution of society? Sociological Imagination can be applied to the picture to better understand the bigger picture and further examining it by applying Functionalism, Symbolic Interactionism, and the Social Conflict Theory to discover new topics of research to further the study of sociology.

“So what’s wrong if the country has 158 neighborhood California Pizza Kitchens instead of one or two?” Virginia Postrel inquires in her In Praise of Chain Stores essay (Postrel 348). In rebuttal, I plan to answer her question with more reasons than one. However, the responses I intend to offer apply not only to the CPKs of America, but for all the national retailers, big box stores, chain stores, and the like. National retailers destroy the local character of small towns. Chain stores should be limited to only run in a few highly populated urban areas. Furthermore, the costs saved in the convenience and familiarity of chain stores do not outweigh the negative economic impact and damaging effects that they can have on a community’s well-being.
You know, there were politicians at some that were legitimately in it for good change, like a good person. Not in it for more people to know there names. The new minimum wage increasement is simply a promotional idea for Kathleen Wynne’s name and re-election. And her re-election along with this idea, screws us over for the future. Which is something I personally- can’t sit by and watch.
As a mother, the first thing that came to my mind were children, when we were informed to choose a nonprofit organization as a topic for the persuasive speech. I don’t have any prior experience helping an organization, so I went on a detailed research. In doing so, I have learned that of all 6 charity checker websites that our good professor has listed on blackboard, 4 of them have only good reports about my chosen nonprofit organization, Save the Children. First, Guidestar rated it gold. Second, Great Nonprofits rated it four and a half stars. Third, Charity Navigator rated it 4 stars. Lastly, Charity Watch rated it A, which means excellent. As for Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance, it says that Save the Children is
I walked into the front of the store to see a crowd of people searching for a good grocery cart. One that wouldn’t wobble every second that you pushed it. I took a look at many of the faces as they were beginning or ending their shopping experience. The people walking in looking for a cart seemed unsure or not pleased to be there in the first place. While the people leaving looked happy and eager to get home. I took this as a clear sign that this was not the most enjoyable place to ...
Hello Diana, I also know many persons who are being paid above the minimum wage, this people have to accept this low wage, just because they do not have papers. It is so sad to see this but on the other hand I have seen many people that are happy and they say they are being blessed because they have a job.
However, before I begin, on behalf of John and Angie I would like to thank everyone who has helped to make this the special day that it is - and I think we can all agree it has been splendid so far.
Have you ever overpaid for something? I think we all have. Your money—practically wasted. Luckily, I can teach you how to put an end to the anguish and regret you feel when you find your wallet and your shopping bag practically empty. By taking advantage of promotions, shopping second-hand, and comparing prices, you can prevent yourself from making the mistake of blindly overpaying.
Starting a business may be both exciting and frightening. Opening a business of your own is not only risky but requires a lot of planning. When attempting to start a business, you must consider practical things such as size, location, stock, employees and most importantly, budget. To ensure the success of your business, you must be motivated, confident and know the regulations. A new business does not become successful overnight, it takes trial and error. Time is a big issue for most individuals who work 60 to 80 hours per week. In that case, I would have to conjure up a business or service that appeals to the aging baby boomers. The idea for the business I want to start is an improvement to an existing service. CONCLUDING SENTENCE NIGGA
