As May is approaching, a group of students are rushing to fill out pages of papers. This is normally a hectic time for seniors to apply for college admissions. However, what surprise is that those students are not filling out college but job applications. They plan not go to college this time as they feel overwhelmed. Transitioning from high schools to colleges is one of the challenges every student faces. In one sentence, college education involves more practical and critical skills. Due to these challenges, some students decided to take a gap year to work or travel, while some others who are willing to challenge, enter college right after their high school graduation. Although, the two options have their own benefits, I believe going right on to college is a better choice to help students prepare for the challenges and their goals.
The first reason is that it is the best way to figure out what they prefer to study. They do not need to worry even if they do not know what they want to pursue. There is a major called liberal arts which is a broad subject, allowing students to explore general education before they decide their particular majors. College faculties know about students’ concerns. They created many programs to guide them. Students can go on tours to see campuses, and join college orientations to prepare for their new journeys. Furthermore, tutorials are available for subjects such as Math, Science, and Writing, which they want to brush up on. Some colleges established Trio program to provide first time and low income students information they need to attain their future goals. All of these are only accessible in colleges, which they cannot get from taking gap years. As a result, these purposes help students adapt better in
