Gray Wolves Should the gray wolf continue to be reintroduced into US parks like Yellowstone National Park? If so, then should they be protected? The gray wolf or (timber wolf as some people say) is a very noble animal and in nineteen ninety five they were released back into US parks (Gray Wolf Conservation). Now the wolf population both inside and outside the parks continues to grow and there are concerns about the impact that they may have on both the domestic and nondomestic animals that are their normal prey. Those concerned are mostly farmers and ranchers- the same groups of people who hunted the timber wolves almost to extinction. They see that animal as the weakest and take it out. This is crucial to survival because it keeps the disease from spreading around unless the wolf catches it. They will even kill a wolf in their own pack if it is sick or seriously injured as in a broken bone. Some people think it is quite possible because they are smart enough to realize if the other wolf can recover or if that disease will spread and take out the whole pack (Auerbach).
However wolves can be super dangerous animals. They are very unpredictable and you never know what their move is going to be. There are on average thirty two deaths a year because of wolves (Carpenter), but that includes deaths from all wolves breeds not just pacifically gray wolves. They do not kill for sport though, it is just what they do. Unless they have something wrong with them they only kill if they feel threatened or endangered (Carpenter).
Wolves are very intimidating animals they can run at speeds up to forty five miles an hour, that's the average speed for driving on the highway. If a wolf is running at someone then there's no getting away unless they're in a car. The average weight for a grey wolf is one hundred and seven pounds. The history behind the extirpation of the grey wolf in the United States dates back to the very first European settlers that colonized eastern North America in the late 16th century. The killing of gray wolves was done primarily out of fear in an attempt to protect livestock, and, in some cases, to protect human life within the colonies. As more settlers expanded West, the practice of killing wolves was considerably increased to protect livestock that included cows, pigs, and chickens. As waves of European settlers expanded westward, they began to deplete the deer, moose, and elk populations. This report is all about the gray wolf. Its scientific name is Canis Lupis. Canis is the Latin word for dog. The genus also includes jackals and coyotes. Lupis is the Latin word for wolf. Gray wolves look similar to German shepherds, but the wolf has longer legs and bigger feet. The color of a gray wolf can range from black to white, but shades of gray are the most common. A unique feature about gray wolves is that the farther north you find them, the larger they are. Males can range from (nose-to-tail) five to six and a half feet and females range from four and a half to six feet. The normal life span of a wolf is about thirteen years, but most wolves don’t live past ten years for numerous reasons. Once determined, the rest of the pack will chase the animal down and either takes it down on the run or chase it until it tires out. However, the hunters would not keep all of the wolves that grew up from the cubs they had. Keeping a wolf that became overly aggressive towards them, or if it had little practical use, would have been both pointless and dangerous to their group. Yellowstone National Park is the World’s First National Park which brings millions of attraction each year, it is larger than Rhode Island and Delaware combine and have over a thousand species of plants and animal (Yellowstone Media). However, a very important type of species has been missing in Yellowstone National Park for a very long time. Most of the time monsters are created to show a certain characteristics of some humans that society wishes to not acknowledge. Their monstrous characteristics comments on "the dark side" of humanity. Overall, trying to say that even humans have a monster side. By juxtaposing a normal person and a vicious animal, werewolves suggest that even humans can have a hidden animal nature within them. Werewolves being half human and half wolf shows that there is even a dark side to humanity as well as there is a human side to monsters. Though, the werewolves mythology is trying to say something about humanity, you cannot deny the fact that werewolves are represented to be Native Americans.

Wolves are too often a misunderstood creature, instead of showing fascination, we always fear them, which is the exact opposite of what we should be doing. The society of wolves is just like ours, sorted by ranks, defined by confidence, and full of emotions. We are more like them than we think. Except they are being hunted, and we are not. In many parts of where they range, all types of wolves are being persecuted for killing livestock. As a result, humans have been killing wolves for years, because of us, their numbers are decreasing by thousands.
