Gray Wolves Should the gray wolf continue to be reintroduced into US parks like Yellowstone National Park? If so, then should they be protected? The gray wolf or (timber wolf as some people say) is a very noble animal and in nineteen ninety five they were released back into US parks (Gray Wolf Conservation). Now the wolf population both inside and outside the parks continues to grow and there are concerns about the impact that they may have on both the domestic and nondomestic animals that are their normal prey. Those concerned are mostly farmers and ranchers- the same groups of people who hunted the timber wolves almost to extinction. They see that animal as the weakest and take it out. This is crucial to survival because it keeps the disease from spreading around unless the wolf catches it. They will even kill a wolf in their own pack if it is sick or seriously injured as in a broken bone. Some people think it is quite possible because they are smart enough to realize if the other wolf can recover or if that disease will spread and take out the whole pack (Auerbach).
However wolves can be super dangerous animals. They are very unpredictable and you never know what their move is going to be. There are on average thirty two deaths a year because of wolves (Carpenter), but that includes deaths from all wolves breeds not just pacifically gray wolves. They do not kill for sport though, it is just what they do. Unless they have something wrong with them they only kill if they feel threatened or endangered (Carpenter).
Wolves are very intimidating animals they can run at speeds up to forty five miles an hour, that's the average speed for driving on the highway. If a wolf is running at someone then there's no getting away unless they're in a car. The average weight for a grey wolf is one hundred and seven pounds. That is bigger the most kids under the age of twelve. They can get to around five and a half feet tall but the average wolf is around four and a half when standing on their hind legs.(one kind).
