A family is a social foundation found in all societies. It unites people in supportive system as they care for one another. In many countries, including the U.S., families form around marriage and are seen as a legal relationship. Patterns of marriage and relationship vary around the world. There are four general marriage patterns around the world endogamy, exogamy, polygamy, and monogamy. Family support is a system involving two married individuals providing care and stability for their children. How the family support is in the household leave the impact on the children as they grow up. I didn’t grow up in such home of one bread winner and one stay at home mom both my parents worked all my life, however now I find myself creating this type of family in my household. As quoted by the Coontz Article “We need to build values and social establishments that can join people’s needs for independence with their equally important rights to dependence, and we must reject older solutions that involved balancing these needs on the backs of women. We will not find our answers in nostalgia for a mythical “traditional family.” I agree with the articles statement however if a family is created with the traditional foundation it is what works for them. Shaping a family traditional or non-traditional is a personal choice, the opinion of others doesn’t matter as long as it is well fit for your family. These are the traditional values that many seek for their families and household’s. A two-parent family in which the husband provides financially while the wife manages home life and childrearing activities. The gender roles are absolute in relationship and household. Most (preferably all) members of the family attend Christian church. Children are attentive, respectful, bright, and responsible. Families live in the same town, or at least the same vicinity, for generations. Divorce is unheard of, and is considered shameful. Homosexuality, nonconformist behavior, child abuse, abortion, and domestic abuse do not exist. Unmarried couples are extremely rare, and frequently are shunned. The number of never-married men (“confirmed bachelors”) and women (“spinsters”) is extremely low. This unit was widely thought as a group based on marriage and biological parenthood as sharing a common residence and united by ties of affection, obligations, care, support, and a sense of common identity. Many couples in the United States idealize the myth of a “tradition family”. The idea that a woman can spend quality time with her child while maintaining an effective sexual life with her partner seemed to have caused a lot of stress during the 1950s. Coontz’s says “this hybrid idea drove thousands of women to therapists, tranquilizers, or alcohol when they tried to live up to it.” (Coontz, 569). Which explains that it is merely impossible to try to mold a family to be “ideal.” Many families still strive for a traditional life, which they define as life “back in the day.” They need to forget the past and start living in the 21st century. “Two-thirds of respondents to one national poll said they wanted more traditional standards of family life.”(Coontz, 582). Which goes to show that many families want to change to what once used to be perceived as an “ideal family” but “the same percentage of people rejected the idea that women should return to their traditional role.”(Coontz, 582). Parents are tricky people. The trickiest parents tell their children how much they love them and shower each child with praises and gifts, but do not be fooled, parents are not being kind and thoughtful out of the goodness of their hearts. No, parents have darker motives that not all kids catch on to. Parents have children for only one reason, so they do not have to do housework. Think about it, from a young age parents are always forcing their kids to pick up toys or throw away trash. Trust me, these demands are not to teach children anything, it is solely because when the parents were younger they had to clean house and now they no longer want to. Now, I know this news has probably come as a shock to you and hopefully you see the injustice. Something has to be done. Luckily, there is a way out by following these four simple steps you can avoid any unnecessary housework in the future.
Traditional family in today’s society is rather a fantasy, a fairy tale without the happy ending. Everyone belongs to a family, but the ideology that the family is built around is the tell tale. Family structures have undeniably changed, moving away from the conventional family model. Nowadays more mothers work outside of the home, more fathers are asked to help with housework, and more women are choosing to have children solo. Today there are families that have a mom and a dad living in the same home, there are step-families, and families that have just a mother or just a father. Probably the most scrutinized could be families that consist of two moms or two dads. These are all examples of families and if all members are appropriately happy and healthy then these families are okay and should incontestably be accepted. So why is the fantasy of the traditional family model still so emphasized in our society? This expectation is degrading and misleading. Progressing with times one ought not be criticized or shunned for being true to their beliefs. It is those living falsely, living as society thinks they should that are the problem. Perhaps as a society, if there were more focus and concern for happiness and peace within ones family and fewer worries for the neighbor then there would be less dilemma.
Single Parent Struggle For many years, children growing up in a single parent family have been viewed as different. Being raised by only one parent seems impossible to many yet over the decades it has become more prevalent. In today’s society many children have grown up to become emotionally stable and successful whether they had one or two parents to show them the rocky path that life bestows upon all human beings. The problem lies in the difference of children raised by single parents versus children raised by both a mother and a father.
The sociological definition of the family is “a set of people related by blood, marriage or some other agreed-upon relationship, or adoption, who share the primary responsibility for reproduction and caring for members of society” (Schaeffer, 2009, p. 288). While the nuclear family (a man, a woman, and their children) was once the primary definition of family, now it refers to many familial configurations. Single-parent families, blended families, same-sex couples, traditional nuclear families and single-parents who have adopted are just a few of the configurations that society in general now views as a family. A healthy family will provide a place of unconditional love, acceptance and support.

A family is where you receive love, support, encouragement, and many other social benefits. Then, when a women eventually becomes ready enough to think about having children, they should go through a testing process, perhaps similar to Sherman’s ideas of interviews, writing, and demonstrations of capability. Parents want to make sure their children is raised in a safe environment, receives the best education, and making sure the child succeeds. Children are raised in all sorts of different ways, the parents want to sure it receives as much knowledge about the world, and the surroundings of their environment are one of the most important things a parent can try to provide. There are many ways a parent raises a child, including their culture and where they are from. Parents will raise their children in the harshest, or even in the nicest way they think is suitable. Some parents believe in whipping a child, others believe they should use words instead of being physical. In America and Japan, they raise their children in a completely different aspects.
