Personalities of The World Ian Leupold 11/29/17 Goodwin College If you ask someone to define personality, you’d probably get many different answers. Like the answers you’d receive, our personality is also very vast. Everyone has a unique personality. Meaning the characteristics and qualities of oneself are different from person to person. Some argue that personalities are passed down from parent to child, but when you analyze both child and parent, you will notice differences between the two, proving that a person’s personality is unique to themselves. On the other hand, when you look at personality from a macro point of view, you will start to notice what are called personality traits. Evidence is accumulating which …show more content…

The first trait, extraversion, is a positive emotionality. It is associated with enthusiasm, assertiveness and sociability. Neuroticism is a negative emotionality. It is often labeled together with anxiety and negative emotional pain. The third trait, agreeableness is what defines characteristics such as compassion (or lack of), politeness, and traits surrounding people caring about others before caring about themselves. People who fall more towards agreeableness are more cooperative whereas those who are on the opposite spectrum are more competitive by nature. Conscientiousness is all about order and industriousness. Someone who falls towards being more conscientious are orderly and well-kept. Whereas those who are lower on the scale for conscientiousness are less orderly, more freely built, and not as organized. The last trait on the Big 5 Personality Model is openness to experience. Each of us have our own personality, yet each of us can be loosely defined by the Big 5 Personality Model. I can score high in my level of openness to experience, and tell myself that I want to travel the world to experience different cultures. I tell myself that one day I want to experience the culture in Turkey. And right at this very moment there is someone in Turkey who, if given this test, has the chance to score the same as I did and quite possibly can want to do the same as I; travel and experience another culture. Does this mean that we are alike? Do we have the same personality? The same characteristics? No, that cannot be possible. This is because we have intellectual autonomy. Our mind, our thoughts, our actions, and our livelihood; these are all subjective to everyone who walks this earth. Yes, it is possible that someone can be similar to me, but their thought process and my thought process can be completely
