I Heart Huckabees Personality is the individual differences in characteristic patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving. To me, personality means uniqueness. It is what sets us all apart from one another. Personality psychologist has coined five different traits into the Big Five. It consists of extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism, and openness to experience. Extraverts are people who are relatively sociable and outgoing while on the opposite end individuals who are introverts are people who would much rather enjoy the company of close friends and family. These different traits of personality have an impact on each individuals’ lives and also how they behave. For instance, according to the text, “The neurotic person might be anxious a lot, but this might protect her from being a knucklehead who chases tornadoes.” (Twenge & Campbell, 2016) Each trait can have a negative effect or a positive effect. Personality can be shaped by genetics and the environment. The environment plays a big role in influencing who you are and how you may behave. Which brings us to the movie I Heart Huckabees written by David O. Russell. It talks about existentialism, which is a type of philosophical theory that articulates the existence of an individual as having free will. Free will is the idea that you go about life, choosing your course of action freely instead of living by a code or believing that God has placed you in this universe with a purpose. Free will sort of demonstrate how individuals will react differently from one another in the same situation. The movie I heart Huckabees is about a guy named Albert Markovski. Brad only uses the Jaffes to get back at his rival Albert who he replaced as leader. Brad didn’t know that the Jaffes will soon make him realize that his life is meaningless. He has been living to please others and not himself. So he then has a mental breakdown. Meanwhile his girlfriend Dawn has also been broken down by the Jaffes. Dawn is beautiful, she’s not only Brad’s girlfriend, but she is the face and the voice of Huckabees. After meeting with the Jaffes she soon starts dressing like a hillbilly and searching for deeper meaning to her life other than looking beautiful and being the face and voice of Huckabees. Brad continues his mental breakdown and runs out of a business meeting and Dawn gets caught in a fire at their home. Tommy the firefighter rushes to the fire on his bike. He beats his fellow firefighters to the house because they got stuck in traffic. Tommy gets trapped inside the burning house with Dawn and the two of them fall in love with each other. The firefighters finally make it there and the two of them are then rescued. Brad shows up to the house and dismantles at the sight of his house. All of his material things that he has worked for are now burned to the ground. Albert is also at the sight of the fire and he soon assembles
