I believe that education should focus on who the individual student is, their intellectual needs, emotions, and interests, while teachers act as guides training students to become self-sufficient adults who have the means to provide for themselves.
My personal philosophy of education has been shaped by the following areas: worldview and philosophy of life, philosophy of schools and learning, instructional practice, teacher-learner relationships, diversity, and school climate. In order to cater to the individual student and their intellectual needs, emotions, and interests, educators need to develop a relationship with them on a deep and personal level. Educators should flippantly be seen as merely a friend, nor should they be seen as a strict dictator that students are afraid of, they should instead as a trusted mentor or a role model. Through exhibiting qualities of a well rounded individual that makes decisions for himself or herself based on learning from personal experiences, educators will have the ability to show students that lessons learned outside of the class room …show more content…

Graduation from high school signifies achievement and proficiency in core subjects and content. When students are placed into the real world, the skills that they have obtained through schooling will not be all that they need to be successful in life. Students should be trained to take on the real world not only intellectually but socially as well. In order for this to happen, the more experience that students have in issues such as relationships and well being the more likely there are to have positive experiences and outcomes in their adult life.
