This past year I fell in love with the game of football all over again. There were several reasons and changes that I experienced which made me love the game more and want to achieve at a higher level. Our team made a comeback from the year before, and that greatly changed the outcome of our team and how I felt. It’s interesting how a few simple changes could alter everything and make our team more imposing. Those simple changes made the sport really fun for me again and made me realize why I played in the first place. Those changes made me love the game. The first change that occurred was our new coach. You wouldn’t think that a new coach could affect the game or how you feel so greatly. I honestly thought that having this new coach would make me dislike the game more, because practices would be harder. I was accustomed to the easy, lazy practices and I didn’t want that to change. I didn’t think that having a new coach …show more content…
This was a huge factor to my new-found love for the game. Football is a fun sport, and it’s a lot more fun if you’re winning. Prior to this year we had only won two or three games, and had a losing record. This season our new coach said that all of that was going to change, that Rocky Ford football wouldn’t be known for losing anymore. I wanted that to happen so badly. I wanted to have a winning record. I knew that with all of the hard work and effort that we had put in, that it was highly possible. We started winning and it felt so good. We felt better as a team and it built up our confidence. Playing was fun because we finally felt like a good team. As the team became more successful, I felt more successful. I felt like I was playing better and I had an impact on our team’s success. This made me feel self-assured and made me enjoy football a lot more. Once we got the taste of winning, everyone tried harder. This made us become closer and we realized how fun football
...k now through everything. We should know no matter what we are put through, we can always come out on top. Our determination as a team lead us to do what many believe that we could not do, winning the state championship game against the nation number one team making the Pearland Oilers Texas Division 5A State Champions.. Even though the damages of football can be permanent over a long period of time it changed my life and I would do it all over again.
The first day we got there we had started off so wrong by arguing. We weren’t doing well and we argued most of the time. Us as a team, we honestly made ourselves look bad in front of the coordinators and other teams that were watching us. The coaches had given us a real big pep talking about sticking together as a team to make us better. Although we didn’t think we needed it, it actually
Of course we did not win every game that season, but we definitely played our best as a team. When I stepped up to lead the team, the leadership became contagious. Others saw how great it was to be
Playing football can be painful from getting bumps and bruises, broken bones, to concussions, and in extreme cases death. Beside the point, four years of football taught me life lessons on and off the field of play. Whether from sportsmanship in the game, to there are no shortcuts in life, to discipline in my education. What I learned during those four years I would never take back that experience for anything in this world.
Everyone knew we had a bunch of capability this season, so all the seniors were looking forward to the season. Ty Waltz and I were elected as the team captains, so that made me feel better as a player and individual to have that responsibility. At the beginning of the season, we had to deal with a few injuries, so playing to our full capability was really hard. We won our first two games, then we had a rough stretch of really good teams. We didn’t win any of them, but we hung in with a Division One team, so we were pretty happy with that.
At the end of the three weeks the team had an inter squad scrimmage so the coaches could actually see how we performed in an actual game. I went into that scrimmage very relaxed and confident and came out feeling very confident and knowing that I did what I needed to do to make the team. The day finally came where we found out if we made the team or not.
To keep each other’s morale up I had to help motivate my team to do better and the best way I did that was to go around to each player and individually motivate them, this kept the team 's hopes high and getting us through each game in the season. Growth mindset help us prosper as a team and as a brothers on the field.growth mindset helped us be successful as a team and as Dr. Dweck writes “I don 't mind losing as long as I see improvement or I feel i’ve done as well as possibly could”.(pg.98). I was happy with our season because my team played 100% on every play and we did not take a snap off. I was happiest of all with myself because I had changed my fixed mind set to a growth mindset and that helped me change as a athlete and a person. Transitioning to a growth mindset helped me be a better leader also and I wouldn 't have won the leadership award for my varsity football team if I had not changed the way I
Football has been a big part of my life ever since I was a little kid. I almost always tried to play football when I could with my brothers if they weren’t busy messing around. During recess in grade school my class would try to start a football game and I would be the first in to be picked on a team. My first time being on a “football team” was in little league my third grade year and I’ve never missed a year yet now that I am a senior in highschool and I’m hoping to continue it in college. Football made the person who I am today, it changed me in many ways and affected how I am as a person.
As a freshman in high school, I had nothing else to do with my life but study. My grades were extraordinary, I was awarded the principle honor roll every year and the National Honor Society was inviting ME to join THEIR club. School became so easy to me. There was a loop whole to passing every class, you just had to find and adhere to it. But at this point, I was craving something different, something that would test me mentally and physically. Because of that, I decided to take part in my high school’s football team. Ever since I made this decision, I believe it turned me into the man I am today. Football is a very passionate sport and you have to play with your heart on your sleeve which why I fell in love with it and became a part this community. It allowed me to voice myself and pushed me to achieve my goals. There is no embargo on how you can feel. Taking part in this discourse community not only develops a strong mental and physical will, but it also taught me life lessons like manners, how to be a leader, and how to be resilient when adversity hits at a young age.
After four years of a new team every season, I went into my first practice of my fifth soccer season expecting the same to be true. Play on this team for one year and then be randomly placed on a different one the following year. Little did I know this team, especially the coaches, would leave a lasting impact on my life. I gained an invaluable support system that has stuck by my side for an upwards of nine years.
Additionally, not all football players turned out to be smelly and rude. Subsequently, my whole outlook on the sport was changed in a flash as I congratulated myself for initially coming to the game despite having been slightly hesitant to do so at first. As the game continued, it became more and more evident that a community of sorts was being constructed. After 3 straight hours of participating in amusing chants, sore feet, and hilarious hand motions, I finally began to feel at home and as if I truly belonged
I was mentally prepare to make myself fit into the “football” environment and didn’t worry much about understanding the game. I have always been a big fan of sports so I thought It was a good idea to try a new sport. I went to the first football game in Husson and I remember that day like it was yesterday because It was a big impact in my life. The
As our season ended earlier than we wanted my mind filled with memories of everything this team accomplished this season. I thought back to the games we won, the practices we had, and my time with the kids. I looked around at the excitement on display by the team that won, and the dejection on the faces of my team. I looked into the stands to see the band, the cheerleaders, the families, and the friends that all stayed until the end to send the boys home one more time. I walked to the locker room and listened to the coaches and the players say their goodbyes to the 2016 team and challenge the 2017 team.
My team had been nicknamed “The Cardiac Kids” because of our ability to pull out a victory by one point, which we had done in six games that season. Critics thought a team that could only squeak out so many victories by one point was bound to lose their composure in the play-offs. Throughout the season we had worked towards becoming the team we now were. We were proud of how far we had gotten. The only thing left to do was to play our hardest and to see how well we matched up against the best team in the state.
The game of football is an essential determining factor that turns boys into men, and every boy at some point should learn to play the game. Not for the game itself, but for the things it teaches about working hard to achieve a goal and how to find another way to reach that goal if failure ensues the first try. The fundamentals of football were drilled into me as a three year old, along with tremendous off season workouts and being able to coach little league football and passing down my knowledge to others, are the key factors that lead to my breakout season and being one of the best players on the team.
