When I was entering into High School, I tried to join as many clubs as I can, since I wanted not only to be superior in grades, but also extracurricular activities. So as usual, I joined Key Club. At first volunteering at the events was fun, but as I went to more events, it felt as if it was a chore. I did not feel any passion; it was rather tiresome. My sister asked if I wanted to join the club that she recently create at my school, which helped special needs students at Hope School with events such as Hope Homecoming, and Hope Prom. Casually, I signed up on the sheet. It did not seem like a big deal, just another club on my list. I began to make personal connections with many of the students at Homecoming. When the event was over, I was, for the first time, disappointed. This was the first event where it did not feel like a chore; it was actually something I was genuinely passionate about. So the next year when I was given a board member position I focused solely on volunteering for Friends 4 Hope. Every Thursday was my favorite day of the week, since there were Game Days where we can play games with a small group of Hope students. Soon after these students slowly began to become my friends. To me I was finally glad to be comfortable around my new friends, but to them it meant a lot more. They never were fully accepted into society as regular people, and our club was able to encourage integration of that. Now the President of Friends 4 Hope, I am proud and glad that I have dedicated my time to making friendships and volunteering with the Hope students. Working with Hope School has allowed me to develop into an excellent communicator and leader. For the first time I loved what I volunteered for. I did not care about the hours, I just wanted to change other’s lives, and with my 4 years in Friends 4 Hope, I believe I did just that. From this experience, I can apply it to other endeavors I may
In sources of strength, the members are chosen as someone who would be a person anyone could come up and talk with if they were having a bad day. Also, as seniors we have two seventh grade kids that we mentor. I do this because I remember how hard it was being a seventh grader and not really knowing much about high school. Once a week we sit down and talk with the children. I always love the stories they have to tell and I truly feel blessed when I can help with anything they are struggling with. Whether that be something in school or something at home, it is so fulfilling talking with them. This activity has taught me what it means to give back to a school and to these kids who need my help. I love service and I spend a lot of time trying to help others with problems. Sources of strength has let me do just that. I have learned what it means to be a leader. This is a large responsibility I do not take lightly. I know the actions I do will have an effect on others, so I try to make sure those effects are positive at all
Later that year, I was accepted into Spanish Honors Society, a volunteer based program to help out the Spanish communities near my school along with volunteering to help raise money for organizations that help less developed countries. One particular project that I helped raise money for through Spanish Honors Society, was Project Running Waters. The money raised for this event was donated to help people living in Guatemala receive fresh water through pipe systems that would be built. We raised over one thousand dollars to donate to this cause. Knowing that I can positively impact individuals in my community and in other countries makes me feel like I have grown maturely and am able to understand what needs to be done to make a difference to
Clubs were a great way for me to expand my interests outside of athletics. I was involved in Key Club and FCA freshman year and I enjoyed meeting new people and making a difference in our community. I was inducted a member of NHS junior year and this was a great way to make service a priority.
My passion for volunteering has grown steadily throughout my four years of attending high school. I viewed volunteering as an escape from problems at school and home and focused on bettering the lives of other individuals. By joining a variety of volunteering opportunities, one club strongly impacted my perspective on the lives of others, Best Buddies. This club gives students the opportunity to develop friendships and relationships with other students who have intellectual and developmental disabilities. I have done so by participating in numerous activities, and when I commit to something, I put all my effort into it, to the fullest extent of my ability. This allows me to be able to meet and cultivate relationships with new people at Roswell High School that I would not have met otherwise. In forming these newfound friendships, I have been able to mature socially and emotionally; I learned to nurture my ability to empathize with others and to express my care and compassion for others more easily. This has allowed me to realize my true heart for people, and I have used these skills, along with my enthusiasm and sense of humor, to encourage an environment of school pride.
Two years ago, I embarked on a journey that would teach me more than I had ever imagined. As a recent college graduate, I was thrilled to finally begin my teaching career in a field I have always held close to my heart. My first two years as a special education teacher presented countless challenges, however, it also brought me great fulfillment and deepened my passion for teaching students with special needs. The experiences I have had both before and after this pivotal point in my life have undoubtedly influenced my desire to further my career in the field of special education.
Since the autumn of 2015, the most influential and communal life experiences I've received have come through my involvement within the branches of Key Club International. I joined as a sophomore, initially drawn in at the promise of ice cream at the end of the first meeting but going into my third year, free ice cream has only been the tip of what I’ve found to be an extensive and fulfilling social service iceberg. My sophomore and junior year I was in the position of Class Representative, and my senior year I became Vice President. This organization helps run dances, after school assemblies, and homecoming week. My last club I was a part of was FCCLA. FCCLA stands for “Family, Community, and Career Leaders of America”. FCCLA was one of my greatest accomplishments in my high school career. We have a variety of events that one could choose to do for competition, and my junior year, my partner and I chose “Hospitality, Tourism, & Recreation.” We designed a company and thought of all the details it would need to be successful. In this event we made it to Nationals in San Diego, CA. We received a silver at Nationals, but we were very proud of the award we received. This club also gives everyone the opportunity to go to Leadership events, which I did. They were seminars that showed the importance of leadership and bringing it to your community, school, and careers. FCCLA was the most beneficial in learning leadership skills. Another organization I was a part of is in my hometown, they have an organization called the, “Trempealeau Lions.” The Lions run everything from our town festival to organizing events in the
My participation in Spartans Out Serving focused on volunteer work in the community and other organizations in which I am an officer has taught me valuable, life-long lessons in leadership and collaboration. A club I created known as the Girls for Krause club at Seven Lakes High School is one of them. This club is exclusively a group of students that volunteer and construct crafts with girls that have removed from their homes due to severe situations and mistreatment. This is another prime example of a club that fulfills my desire to aid those in need. Of these assets and others have also been developed through my participation in my schools Track and Field, basketball, and Cross country programs. Through sports I have learned the unconceivable feats that can be accomplished through hard work, self-discipline, and teamwork. I have never understood this better than when my Track Team on both the Varsity and Junior Varsity level won districts and the advanced to regionals. We won the regionals championships and even had two girls compete on the state level. My activities have not only shown me the strength of many, but have taught me the power of one. Freshman year of high school was my year of growth, for it shaped me into a person that I never thought I was capable of being. In my transition from middle school to high school, I thought that life was perfect; as a result, I took various things for granted such as having two parents, a bed to sleep in, and financial stability, until October 28, 2015.

It doesn't take much to make your community a better place, every little bit helps. I've been volunteering more and more ever since my freshman year in high school, starting with volunteering with my school's JROTC program at St. Mary's Dining Hall, a kitchen that feeds the homeless. From this first volunteering experience, I went on to start volunteering more. I was able to learn about more volunteering opportunities through Key Club. From there I volunteered in either donating candy for our school's trunk or treat, canned food for a drive, and participate in other organizations that helps the needy, like Bread of Life. Through this group, I was able to lead campus initiatives such as Out of the Darkness walks for suicide prevention, leading talks to start a conversation between students regarding eating disorders and depression to help alleviate some of the stigmas and presumptions some may have. I was also able to help Cook Counseling Center organize seminars and fairs to increase the awareness of mental health issues. I’m also currently planning a NEDA walk for my school, which will raise money for the National Eating Disorder
This club is a community service organizational club and also in my opinion it’s a club where you can get closer to friends in there I have done so many community service organizations in this club that’s amazing, some of them which are the Special Ed Prom, Sandston Pool Spring Fling, Montrose Elementary 5k Fun Run, Varina Elementary Field Day, Glendale Ruritan Dinner, Henrico County Big Feet Meet, 50th Anniversary Dinner, Glendale Ruritan Santa Breakfast, VA Dominion Power Christmas Parade, Children’s Hospital 4k, and Henrico County High School Band Festival. Some of the organizations we deal with go from the exceptional education kids to the elderly folks in our community. When I was working with the exceptional children at my school it not only meant a lot to me, but it did to them to.
