For the past four years I have realized that I am passionate about the lives of our children. I have learned the importance of educating people during infancy and adolescence. When we are young we are like a sponge; people feed us information and we observe their behavior and we soak that information and those behaviors in. The information we learn during our childhood is what helps build us into the person we will be as adults. Children who live in a home with a happy family are fortunate enough to have a higher possibility of success rather than someone who does not have a roof over their heads, living in a violent environment, has no parents/guardians, living in poverty, etc. There is a lack of attention in the system to try to prevent incidents
It's hard for me to say where I'll be in the years to come, already my life has strayed from the path I once thought it would follow. However, that doesn't change my motivation or determination to reach and excel at my personal goals. My whole life I've endured a system that dictated what should be important to me, and while it's helped me learn the practical skills I need outside of an academic setting, I have a passion to grow further from what's expected of me, and so with much enthusiasm I look forward to attending college in which I hope to achieve more by constantly learning and expanding my personal knowledge.
There are many things that have molded me into the person I am today such as being born into a family with four children. With three siblings, I have been forced to be able to work out problems from stealing each other’s toys to having to rush to the emergency room to get stiches because my brother chased me around the house and I tripped. My mother, father, brother, and two sisters were all born in Pennsylvania and I am the odd ball and I was born in Adrian, Michigan. From when I was a child I always loved being involved with sports because of my competitive nature. I grew up playing soccer and having success with that but then my love changed and I began playing lacrosse and football. I started playing lacrosse in middle school and played
It is true that sometimes the Child Welfare system lets its children down and ends up raising offenders. However, that is not to say that what they do is simply or even mostly a failure, I am merely attempting to turn random stars into constellations. There are great changes that are made in this system. I have witnessed cases progress from being supervised visits to becoming monitored visits. I have seen mothers taking home their babies and children returning home because the parents have met their return conditions. I have seen parents who were hopeless drug addicts reach milestones by staying clean. I have heard cases of mothers who were repeat domestic violence victims set limits to their ex-abusers and seen a father learn how to hold a
Child Abuse is a topic that may hit some hard and unwillingly, but it’s something that needs notice in this world. Generations have attempted numerous times to try to stop and help this issue. Laws have been passed, organizations to help the wounded soul, and countless other options to help the struggle. This issue comes and scars so many children throughout the country of the US, so let their voices be heard in empathy and passion. Let the violence towards children slowly come to a halt and let it stay that way in endless rest. Child abuse is painfully wrong, traumatizing, and affecting millions of children everyday, child abuse can be helped and prevented if people wished to in the US.
I find myself extremely passionate in Community Service, I have volunteered at Emmanuel Apostolic Church during Vacation Bible School for the past two summers, preparing food, coming up with creative ideas to keep children occupied, and making sure children are safe. During this time my leadership and conversational skills have strengthened. In addition to that, I have also volunteered there on numerous occasions to feed the homeless. In high school, I also volunteered at an Elderly home on bingo night to interact with the elderly, gave a listening ear, it was extremely rewarding to see them smile, laugh, and interact with me as if they had known me for a while; that showed me how much they appreciate having company. I take huge delight in
I was one of those children who wanted to be a veterinarian when I was young, but I decided after taking an Early Childhood Education class that I wanted to be a teacher. I have then signed up for the teacher cadet program at my school. To reach my goals, I realize that I must pursue at least a four year college education beginning in the Fall 2016 semester. I am very excited about my future and feel that with the opportunity your scholarship will provide, I can help teach a younger generation.
Our children are our future and their health and welfare should be one of our top priorities. Research has confirmed what anyone with common sense already knows: Children, who are fed, do better than those who are hungry. Money spent for child care and education services pay off in the long run and are less likely to be spent on special education and the criminal justice system. There is evidence that hitting children, corporal punishment, which is now illegal in many countries, can contribute to behavioral problems, encourages children to act violently, and can even lower intelligence. We also know that people with insurance stay healthier than those without, and that healthy children do better than sick children (Leon Hoffman, 2011).
I remember the day she born. I was nervous for the simple fact that my life would never be the same. Soon no longer would I be known as just Ayanna, I would take on a new title. A title that I would share with so many woman, and after eight long hours of labor, I would now be known to the world as mommy.
In 1984 Ronald Reagan was President of the United States. Prince’s song When Doves Cry was number one on the Top Hits chart. On a hot, summer night my mother goes into labor with her third child. At 12:18am on August 25, 1984 I was born to Aubrey and Betty Hall in a Dallas hospital. My mother chose to name me Heather after the Scottish Heather flower referencing our Scottish heritage. My father picked my middle name, Jane, after his favorite grandmother. I was born into a loving family consisting of a father, mother, sister, and brother. A few years later our family of five turns into a family of eight with the births of another sister and two more brothers. Three boys and three girls, we were practically the Brady Bunch. There has been so
...ill benefit from a new system that focuses on prevention as opposed to punishing wrongdoers. This will be an economically efficient change for society and children will get the protection and care they deserve.
...ntion and resources. Therefore, we, as a society must cast away all our doubts and hesitation embedded in our culture and initiate an entire movement of change. With society, adults, educators, schools, and children taking part in the prevention of child abuse and its criminal consequences, it is possible to achieve a long-term solution. We need to make the invisible world of child abuse and its dangerous aftereffects visible. We must emphasize that with dedication and effort, the utter elimination of abuse, maltreatment, and neglect towards our children is absolutely possible. The greatest contribution America can make in breaking the cycle of crime and solving the problems we created ourselves is to face them head on, reverse the trends that have our society and its children heading the wrong way, and not hurt, but nurture and cherish the spirit of our future.
Could you imagine how children must feel when they are abused by someone that is supposed to love and protect them, and nothing is done to help them? For this reason, it is important to realize there are legislative laws protecting child abusers from hate crimes, and excuses certain people from mandated reporting abuse. In fact, almost five children die every day as a result of abuse. Also, money is spent to convict and imprison child abusers which could be put towards programs that help people to recognize and prevent abuse. Children are the future; therefore, it is important for them to grow up in an environment they can thrive, feel safe and free from harm. After all, as the old saying “It takes a village to raise a child” stands true to this day. Now is the time for everyone to put forth the extra effort to create ways to bring child abuse, a growing epidemic to an end. As responsible citizens it is the duty to report when child abuse is suspected, create laws that
Last year I was able to work with a group to teach others about issues dealing with the children of today. I was approached by a group to put on an eight-hour seminar that concerns children. No one was sure what they wanted except that it would be with a church group that had a day care that operated during the day. I decided to take on the project and began to do my research.
In Denver, Colorado a couple had absolutely neglected to parent their children. With feces piled high, trash spread throughout the house, and communication occurring through grunts and gestures, these parents needed a reality check. Not all parents choose to take parenting classes, in their case, they were assigned to. I believe all parents should take one, because not everyone is prepared for children. When one of their sons needed to go to the doctors for a cut he got on his head, the doctors were surprised to see a bruise on his ear and he reeked the smell of cigarettes. A cop and human services worker were sent out to their house and discovered the horrible environment. I am glad that from taking this class I was able to learn more about mandated reporters and their duties. Before, I never knew that a doctor could be the one to see all of this happening and be the one to bring others attention to the
Have you ever experienced child abuse before? Think about the children who have been abused. They cannot protect themselves from it. Most of them are so small they don’t know what’s going on. Child Abuse has been around for many and many years, but nobody knows a way to stop it. Child Abuse is not only a bad problem, but it’s a problem that has to be stopped.
