By observing my parents, I was able to understand the different parenting roles that both my parents use to parent me and my sister. Between both my parents, they both have different parenting skills. My mother can be classify as a authoritative parent. The textbook stated, "Although the parents had a clear notion of present and future standards of behavior for the child, they were rational, flexible, and attentive to the needs and preferences of the child...self-reliant and self-confident and explored their worlds with excitement and pleasure." My father on the other hand was an authoritarian parent who was more firm on me and my sister, especially the first child. As a child I was able to explore and experience society in different ways. I was always surrounded by different students from different background status. So I learn a lot from observing and experience different backgrounds, it gave me a sense of knowledge of the similarities and differences that everybody has. I was also associated with people who of various ages. When I was in elementary school, my sisters and I was able to be tutor at an afterschool program by university students. The reason why we had to get tutor from an afterschool program is because my parents were unable to help us with our assignments from school, the only thing that could do is buy materials and supply us with things we need.
