Good afternoon/morning fellow students and sir, today I am going to present to you why Oscar Romero should be a house patron. Through doing this I will tell you why he is considered a Christian leader and how he followed the ignition values of Discernment, Courage and service.
In my first point Oscar Romero showed Discernment through his actions. Oscar Romero was born and raised in EL Salvador, Oscar quickly became a voice for the voiceless. He spoke out, he decided that he would not stand for injustice. Oscar Romero bravely confronted the prime minister and told him to investigate the killings. It takes true discernment to stay in a very dangerous city for one reason, to help the sick, poor and dying.

Oscar Romero was not deterred by threats his only duty was to serve, as he once said "I have frequently been threatened with death. I must say that, as a Christian, I do not believe in death but in the resurrection. If they kill me, I shall rise again in the Salvadoran people."Oscar Romero shows true shows true courage, to stand up for what he believes in, even in front of the government and the odds.
In my final point, Oscar Romero shows his ability and willingness to serve. Oscar showed his willingness to serve at a young age, he was so willing that after two years of being bishop, he was so horrified at the amount of people dying each day he demanded that the government investigate the murders. In the speech that Cesar chavez presented himself at a mexican american celebration conference talks about of how he sees the church and mexican americans together. Also Chavez was committed to carry out his movement with no violence toward the crowd who doubted him and movement, but others did try violence on them and did not succeed on bring them down. He also had brought this speech towards the public during his 25 days of spiritual fast and had talked about mexican americans and the church and how they are related.Using imagery,metaphors,and repetition, Chavez hoped his speech would bring people together through rough times using the church and their faith to give them hope for a better future.
Oscar Romero was born on August 15, 1917 in El Salvador. He was appointed Archbishop of El Salvador on February 23, 1977. When Romero was appointed as an Archbishop many priests were disappointed, especially those openly aligning with Marxism. On 12 March 1977, Rutilio Grande, a progressive Jesuit priest and personal friend of Romero who had been creating self-reliance groups among the poor campesinos, was assassinated do to what he was doing to help out the poor people in the community. His death had a profound impact on Romero, who later stated, "When I looked at Rutilio lying there dead I thought, 'If they have killed him for doing what he did, then I too have to walk the same path'". Romero urged the government to investigate, but they ignored his request. Romero started to investigate himself to see how he could help the people of the campesinos that have been kidnap. Later Romero spoke out against poverty, social injustice, assassinations and torture and the ones that were kidnap as political prisoners. When he spoke of this this brought many more enemies towards his way because they did no wanted a archbishop speaking of such things and saying that El Salvador government was not doing and this made the people with power furious and they decided to take actions in their hands. Also, Archbishop Oscar Romero utilized the broadcast as an oral newspaper: every documented case of killing, assault, disappearance, or torture – whether by the left or the right was broadcast. To let everyone know how El Salvador was and to show the ones with power that he was not afraid to talk about what was happening and why they weren’t doing their job in find out what was going on in the community.
In Mr. King’s writing, he creates feelings of guilt in the clergymen’s hearts. In addition, knowing the church is what the clergyman value the most, he accuses the church for not attempting to take a stand on the sinful behavior of the white moderate. Mr. King recognizes this will change their outlook on segregation and inequality. Also, he knows that with suffering comes victory, just as Christ Jesus had to endure. In addition, he believes that Jesus is the most influential spiritual being known to the clergyman. Mr. King brought to their attention that he is an extremist just like Jesus. His view toward the clergyman is if he is to die for the sake of his beliefs, at least he will die with dignity.
Cesar Chavez uses morals and his audience fear of destruction to justify his stance on non-violent protests . Martin Luther King jr was an activist and civil rights leader that did not use violence to get his point across like many other activists at that time. Cesar Chavez wrote on the anniversary of his death explaining why using nonviolence is the way to advocate rights for those in need. His article was put in a religious organization that helped people who were in need of help. Cesar Chavez uses morals as a way to appeal to the religious side of his audience. Cesar Chavez also uses the fear of losing power to prove that doing nonviolent protests are the right way to spread his cause.
...eam, as Romero showcases the fact that the flaws shown within the characters end up turning their situation into something far worse than it had been in the beginning. It shows just how depraved, violent and absolutely terrifying humans can easily become when put into situations without consequences. Romero’s film is dredged in cynicism towards the modern American Dream, the way he deals with symbolism towards how “just” the American system is during battles and war, and how incredibly messed up our generalized view on racism and the ever ongoing struggle for certain ethnic groups to survive is. “The negativity of the characters extends, in fact, into every facet of their lives; indeed, the film implies the deepest denial of the goodness of effectiveness of every facet of human life in general. Every kind of human relationship is ridiculed or negated in the film.” 4
In the movie Romero, Archbishop Romero changes very much in his understanding of love and in his understanding of true conscience. At first Romero is just a priest who isn’t really concerned about the poor and how they are being oppressed, but when Romero is chosen to be the new Archbishop his friend, who is assassinated, I think has a slight impact on him. But I think when his friend is assassinated is when he really starts to realize what is happening to the country of El Salvador and how the government doesn’t want anyone to speak out about this. So, now Romero is starting to action against the government and tries to speak out against them. Here we see Archbishop Romero’s true conscience and love grow for the people around him because we see him taking more action against the government. I think that Archbishop Romero defines love as helping others who are in need and others who need his help whatever it may be. We see Romero do this when he starts to lead the revolt in trying to tell the El Salvadoran Government to stop oppressing the poor and treat everyone as human beings. I think Romero has to make a very big decision considering, the gorillas were sending out flyers that said “Be a Patriot, Kill a Priest”. The decision that Romero had to make was whether or not to help the poor or just be a puppet for the cardinals that selected him to be a puppet in the beginning. Romero quickly finds out the way the country is run by the military. The poor people of Salvador are missing and being executed by the military. Romero tries to stop these events through the power of the Church.

For this reason Night of the Living Dead raises the question of whether the film represents historicism or formalism, making it a movie before its time. Post modernism in film is known for pastiche elements of previous history, genres, and styles, yet it is most popularly seen in more recent movies. Romero used pastiche, even though this term was not yet coined, by mirroring this movie off the historical events of racism and the era of Martin Luther King Jr. This idea is very well captured when watching the film, especially at the end. There was quite a bit of controversy over this movie as well, given the main character/hero of the film is an African American male. With his immense influence in El Salvador, he was able to encourage the church and its people to fight for justice, equality, and human rights for all. His and the churches actions displayed a sense of liberation theology. They saw the situation, assessed it, and then judged what needed to be done. The actions that the church raised served as critical actions towards the peoples struggle for what is right, and although justice was not fully fulfilled the footstones were set for a great upcoming. The church along with Romero served as a great authority towards bringing Gods kingdom here on earth. The struggle for social justice was a critical factor of how the church is a community of all people, and how everyone deserves an equal potential at life without obstacles.
In the film Romero the main character Oscar Romero demonstrates various virtues such as charity and love, distributive justice and theological . Romero was a figure who was a hero towards people he made a change in society due to the virtues he carried out. To live a well Christian life we should recognize that virtues are a highly important like Romero said " Aspire not to have more but to be more" , In order to live in a community with respect we see it is hard to do because of the conflict around us. This is why we need justice in our life because a leader can come forth and advocate what are the wrongs in our society. Romero is that preacher who stood up for the El Salvadorian people he is the figure who did more and cared to spread the wrongs happening in the world.
Saint Francis of Assisi had a simple message to all in his time and in ours; live a life of humble simplicity in service to others to the glory of God. He came from a background of wealth and privilege yet put it behind him for the privilege of serving God and all His creation. To Francis everything sang out in praise to God; every person, plant, and bird to which he compelled us to be good stewards of the earth and its resources. He conveyed the truth of God’s love for us and all of creation and led by his example of service.
