Citizens are everywhere, the good and the bad. A criminal, smuggler, and people of bad nature are citizens but they can’t be called an ideal citizen. An ideal citizen is someone of good nature, a patriot you could say. Oprah Winfrey is a great example of an ideal citizen because she exemplifies perseverance, although she grew up in poverty, helps the community by giving charity, and she is a role model for many people.
Oprah Winfrey represents a lot of perseverance. Oprah was born into poverty on her grandma’s farm in Mississippi, she persevered through her hard childhood. “Born to an unwed teenage mother, Oprah Winfrey spent her first years on her grandmother's farm in Kosciusko,”(1) Oprah Winfrey didn’t have her mother when she was young …show more content…

Since Oprah is such a wealthy person she benefits the community by giving charity consistently. Oprah gave back to her community, “in the 2008 presidential election, Winfrey publicly endorsed a political candidate for the first time, hosting a fundraiser for Senator Barack Obama and appearing with him at campaign events. It is widely believed that her support was crucial to his winning the Democratic nomination -- and the Presidency itself.”(1) Oprah helped Barack Obama during the presidential election using her influence on America and her riches. Using her wealth and passion Oprah donated to the smithsonian. The Washington post states,” Philanthropist and media mogul Oprah Winfrey is donating $12 million to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture, officials announced Tuesday. Combined with the $1 million she gave in 2007, it is the museum’s largest donation,”(4). Opera is very wealthy person and she gave back to the community by helping the Smithsonian museum grow. Coming from her troubled early life she started a leadership Academy for girls. “Founded on Oprah Winfrey’s belief that education is the passport to independence and a life of fulfillment, OWLAF’s focus is on empowering academically talented girls who come from disadvantaged backgrounds.”(3)Oprah made a leadership academy for girls coming from disadvantaged backgrounds, which is what she came
