Ring! Ring! The mailman is at your door delivering your report card. Your mom steps out to collect the mail. “These grades are pathetic!” “Bring me that phone now!” What happened? Your grades took an unexpected turn for the worst, they have dropped dramatically and your parents are upset. You don’t have to be a genius to identify that your time online has intervened with the time you invest doing your homework and it is beginning to display in your grades. Being online can be dangerous for teens as it not only take up all of their time, but it also can lead to hurtful situations. Although the internet can be advantageous, the experience some may have on the internet can alter people's lives mentally and emotionally. "Teens might be online because they are already depressed, anxious, and lonely. Or they might become so, if forced to give up their habit. Signs and symptoms of withdrawal anxiety in a child include difficulty concentrating, pacing, irritable and stressed mood, and fidgeting" (Source 1). Plenty of teens online can be unquestionably impolite to one another. This can agonize a teen's self-esteem and it will make them miserable and they can potentially end up harming themselves.
