Another potential unintended negative side effect of the one child policy is society aging problem. Roughly before the one child policy was implemented, children and young people (0-24) as a percentage of working age population (25-64) of China was above the world average. At the time the policy was firstly implemented, the same rate of China was around the same of the world average, roughly around 140:100. After the the policy was introduced, as the number of new born baby dramatically declined, the same rate of China continued went down and below the world average.
