In the Odyssey, Odysseus goes through many hardships on his journey home. Starting with the monsters he defeats, to the gods that slow him down. Odysseus is a true hero, from everything that he has done, or tried to do. I for one think he is a hero, and here is why. He looks out for his men, and saves them countless times. He saved them when they were trapped with the Cyclops and there was no way out because of the big stone in front of the door. But, Odysseus had a clever idea, since they couldn't kill him or they would be trapped. He told that they were going to make a spear and shove it into the Cyclops eye, and that's what they did. Also, when they did not have very much food, Odysseus and a few of his men would go hunt for their food. …show more content…

For example, when they found the cattle and they had to go kill some of them to stay alive, even when they weren't suppose to. In the story Odysseus returns home to his wife and kid whom he hasn't seen in a very long time. This is the topic that is brought up many times, how he needs to return home to his family. Everything he fought for was just to get home, from the monsters to the gods. As it says in the book, Odysseus is strong and brave. Also, some of his men died and it was tough, but he still needed to keep going and make it home. That's what I think gave him the strength to keep going and keep going and keep fighting his way through. He was a hero when he returned home, not only to his family, but to himself too. Even though he was willing to sacrifice his men and not listen to them doesn't make him a bad guy. Odysseus no matter what the consequences would do anything to get home. But, for a single man, he did the best he could to keep his men and himself alive. He did so many things to help everyone that he deserves to be called a
