I grew up in a small town of a third world country. The way of life was simple and the food was wholesome and healthy. The relationship I developed with food early on was not solely for providing nourishment to be healthy but it had many therapeutic aspects as well. I never went to see doctors for a common cold or an upset stomach; such seasonal ailments were not only managed by the simple “Food Therapies” but were also protected against certain diseases by the use of seasonal foods.
Food is universal. It is one form of passion that we humans share, regardless of race, religion or ethnicity. Food goes beyond its basic purpose of sustenance; it serves as a means of connection among all backgrounds across the globe. Food diversity is at its height due to the distinctions not only in food choice but the way it is cooked and preserved. Sometimes, it’s even perceived as a source of pleasure. I cannot think of a better method of following my passion than to practice nutrition. By incorporating my past and present experiences with food I hope to follow this career with a multidimensional approach to a healthy, worthwhile and joyous living. The growing awareness of diseases and the desire to live a healthy life has sparked my interest in nutrition and dietetics.
Working in the commercial food industry has trained me to be able to understand a company’s needs for cost reduction, profit maximization, and customer satisfaction. Being a certified Quality Auditor has familiarized me with the Quality Management Systems. Teaching Business Management and Self Management Skills at the university has further enhanced my interpersonal and communication skills.
