NPR’s ethics handbook is one of the best resources that I’ve been able to use throughout my career as a student journalist. The NPR code of ethics is one of the more comprehensive codes of ethics that I think works well in a field that’s constantly evolving. In the overview of the code, it’s specifically stated that the code is a “living code.” This is seen throughout NPR’s ethics page because they update their guideline regularly. Following a code of ethics that’s constantly changing, seems daunting, but I appreciate that it’s not set in stone. It’s important for myself as a journalist that NPR leaves room for improvement in their code because that means it’s able to shift along with society. Another important aspect of the NPR ethics

The Ins and Outs of Ethics is a Business Week Online magazine article from May 13, 2001, it was written by Eric Wahlgren. In the article he interviews Michael Rion, the author of The Responsible Manager. Rion is also a leading business ethics advisor who consults many Standard and Poor’s 500 companies. In the article Wahlgren asks Rion why it is important for businesses to have a high ethical standard. In his responses, Rion explains that effective organizations utilize ethics programs to clearly define ethical expectations, resolve ethical issues quickly, and to remove moral constraints. Additionally, employees who understand how to deal with ethical dilemmas will also be more productive and have strong core values to guide them. According to scripture, Rions concepts are biblically sound, relevant, and desirable, proving that ethical organizational behavior is shaped and influenced by sound ethical principles.

There will be many times in ones educational career when they will have different viewpoints or want to break some of these obligations, its important to think about whom one talks to, who is watching, and what the consequences are.
A code of ethics is essential to a profession, especially a law enforcement agency in my opinion. A code of ethics will provide a starting point for the professionals and for others that they may deal with on a daily basis. It will also ensure fair treatment of members of the profession and the profession serves. Ethics provides a framework for conducting essential information functions, instituting policies, and developing strategies for service. Without them, we are merely on our own to determine what is right. Some without morals may take advantage of that, which would look unjust in the eyes of the public.
The Code of Ethics for Nurses was created to be a guide for nurses to perform their duties in a way that is abiding with the ethical responsibilities of the nursing profession and quality in nursing care. The Code of Ethics has excellent guidelines for how nurses should behave, however; these parameters are not specific. They do not identify what is right and wrong, leaving nurses having to ultimately make that decision. Ethics in nursing involves individual interpretation based on personal morals and values. Nursing professionals have the ethical accountability to be altruistic, meaning a nurse who cares for patients without self-interest. This results in a nurse functioning as a patient advocate, making decisions that are in the best interest of the patient and practicing sound nursing ethics.
Registered nurses abide by a code of ethics as set forth by the American Nurses Association. Some of the ethics nurses live out are: commitment to the patient, practice with compassion and respect, accountability and responsibility for owns actions and collaborating with other health care providers (Code of Ethics for Nurses, 2015). Nurses practice the code of ethics on a routine basis by employing the six fundamental concepts established by the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN).

Consequentialism and deontology are two different theories concerning with morality. Consequentialism believes in the concept of the end justifies the means. On the other hand, deontology does not believe in the concept of the ends justifies the means. It believes that right actions are defined by duty. Deontology is the opposite of consequentialism when it comes to moral ethics, making it the better approach.
Code of ethics is to be utilized by AIHMA members, agencies, consumers, and others who choose to embrace it as a frame of reference. (AHIMA, 2014)
“Ethics is a systematic study of principles of right and wrong conduct” (Taylor, Lillis, Lynn, & LeMone, 2015, p. 96). The American Nurses Association Code of Ethics has nine provisions to it. All nine are important to the nursing field in their own way. There are two provisions that I find most important in helping my career as a nurse. Provision one, The nurse, in all professional relationships, practices with compassion and respect of the inherent dignity, worth, and uniqueness of every individual, unrestricted by considerations of social or economic status, personal, attributes, or the nature of health problems. Secondly provision two, the nurse’s primary commitment is to the patient whether an individual, family, group, or community.
The codes of ethics are established to help, protect, and provide guidance to each individual professional on how to act in their respective profession and create an environment where ethical behavior is practiced and observed by everyone in the profession. By observing the code of ethics every member ensures that they are held to a higher standard when it comes to quality patient care and at the same time help eliminate bad actors in the profession. I feel it is important for any group, specifically one based in the field of public relations to have a code of ethics. Without this important document it would be impossible to specify important points on what the members should and shouldn't do. In this particular case, the specifics are very important due to the fact that within these outlined features, there are laws that must constitute those of the United States of America. It is especially important to follow certain guidelines when dealing with government agencies.

Ethics is a system of moral principles and a branch of philosophy which defines what is acceptable for both individuals and society. It is a philosophy that covers a whole range of things that have an importance in everyday situations. Ethics are vital in everyones lives, it includes human values, and how to have a good life, our rights and responsibilities, moral decisions what is right and wrong, good and bad. Moral principles affect how people make decisions and lead their lives (BBC, 2013). There are many different beliefs about were ethics come from. These consist of; God and Religion, human conscience, the example of good human beings and a huge desire for the best for people in each unique situation, and political power (BBC, 2013).
