I think all servicemen and women should be able to keep their dog. Reasons why I think this is because they have bonded with these dogs and they don’t want to have to give them up for them to go work in the army. Another reason is that they made a friend that showed they loved and cared for them. Like in the story it said that it was an emotional day for Jose and Zenit when they got reunited again, which would show that mostly all soldiers would love to have their dog back after they were in the war. Jose said this in the story “ Nothing felt right without him. Most dog handlers bond with their dog so they don’t want to lose them and they care about them very much. Like when Jose found out Zenit had a new handler it made him sad and mad. Wouldn’t you be mad if your dog you had bonded with was given to someone else. These dogs need the people who care about them most and it is the handlers who had them in the very beginning when they were small and didn’t know what to do they were to little but then they became to know the handler and now the ARMY takes them away from you. I have gotten a little repetitive over what the subject was I just have many things to say about this matter. This is a very important subject to me and I’m very dear to it which makes me feel that the handlers should get to keep the dogs be froe they get hurt by someone else that doesn’t really know the dog but plans on helping it become better. The dogs of war by Michael Paterniti is an informative and heartwarming article about handler Marine Corporal Jose Armenta and his dog Zenit. These animals are abandoned for reasons including families no longer being able to care for them (sickness/death of an owner), to families not wanting them (the novelty wearing of the animal wearing off), to the animals being born into puppy mills to finally animals that are loved being lost from their owners. Having a dog can be a great experience for people who enjoy their company. These animals are usually friendly and active; they are intelligent and can develop a strong relationship with their owners based on love and care. However, having dogs is a big responsibility for the person who owns them, because they are animals, so they cannot support themselves. A woman walks into the shelter with two small dogs attached to leashes and a river of tears streaming down her face. I knew right then what she was doing; she was surrendering her rights to the dogs. She was not able to keep them because her landlord did not allow dogs in the apartment, even though they barely weighed ten pounds each. I shared her pain and wished that I could be the one to take in her dogs and be able to give her peace of mind with knowing that her babies went to a loving home. Sadly I could not, but the one thing I could do was show them as much love as possible while I was there. Dogs are magnificent creatures, and when raised correctly, are adorable, loyal, loving animals. However it takes a lot of time, energy, and commitment to make sure that dogs are raised correctly. These animals have a lot of the same requirements that a human child needs. They also act as a child would. A new dog owner would do well to consider these points before they take on the responsibility of raising one of these incredible creatures.
Dogs are wonderful creatures. They are loyal, dependable companions if given the opportunity. In recent years I have come to the opinion that we could learn something from these animals. We should also take a look at the manner in which they are being treated. Abandonment, irresponsible breeding, and neglect are only some of the ways that humans are failing the canine species.
