According to our text because of the difficult distinguishing normal from abnormal behavior, psychologists have struggled to devise a precise, scientific definition of “abnormal behavior” (Psychology and Your Life Feldam 2017). What is considered abnormal for some can be considered normal for others. The lifestyle practice that one chooses or the way an individual copes with life can differ amongst individuals. Deciding which coping style or preference is normal is or abnormal is generally is based off an individual's personal perception according to their own beliefs and practices.

In the movie Inside Out (2015) preteen Riley experiences sudden changes in her world that affect the stable foundation of her life. The animated movie illustrates how her daily emotions of Fear, Joy, Anger, Sadness, and Disgust begin to present conflict in her mind which is known as the control center. The younger the child, the closer they are to the stage of innocence. Therefore, the media will open the idea that other influences beyond the child's control impacted the disorder. In contrast if the disorder leads to an act of crime or deviance the media has less focus on empathy for the child. This is common when dealing with children and certain social conditions and racial classes.

Riley’s mood disorder led her to engage in a range of devious acts,taking money out of her mom’s purse and using it to run away.
