Moving to America When I first moved to America I had many difficult, but positive life changing experiences. My parents, five sisters, four brothers, and I were all very nervous and excited to start a new life. I had many life changing experiences when it was my first time in an airport, starting school to learn a new language, and moving to Lincoln, Nebraska. It was a very cold morning on November 7th, 2000; my family and I walked into the big busy building not knowing what to expect, it was my first time ever being in an airport. It was also the first time for all of us to fly on an airplane. I was a curious six year old and the youngest of all my siblings. I would ask a lot of questions to my mom like “When will I go to school? What language do they speak in America? Will we have a big house in America?” We were all very nervous but, excited not knowing what to expect when we arrive in America. My parents took a big chance …show more content…

There were all types of people there, some people were rushing with their luggage and others were sitting waiting for their flights. My family and I were all crowded in the airport as we waited for our luggage to come. As we were anxiously waiting, we seen our sponsor family walking towards us. We didn’t know how to communicate with one another because they spoke English and we spoke Kurdish. They welcomed us with their gentle and kind hugs. It felt very warm and welcoming to us. They requested a translator so we could communicate with one another. We were relieved to know there was a translator that spoke our language there and could explain everything thoroughly. The sponsor family were very generous and helped us a lot; we would have been lost without them. Also, the translator and his family were very caring and attentive.
