My Experience In Internship

I have a great experience with my mentor this semester. My mentor is Dr. John Hoeschen, he owns this own independent pharmacy in St Paul, that is the St. Paul Corner Drug. This drug store has a long history; it is started since 1922. Due to my lack understanding of America’s pharmacy system, he introduced that the basic structure of American pharmacy is divided into community pharmacy and hospital pharmacy, in community pharmacy, two kinds of pharmacy exist, retailed pharmacy and independent pharmacy. St Paul Corner Drug is one of the independent pharmacy, their goal is to build good relationship with patients in the community, talk and listen to patients about their concerns and worries, give them the suggestions. These are very different compared to retailed pharmacy, whose goal is to make profits for companies. I love the independent pharmacy setting. I think I am talented at talking to people and I enjoy sharing stories with them. Sometimes I can just smile and give them comfort.

I am willing to talking with people and listening to them, during my internship experience in Chinese hospital, I can naturally comfort patients and educate them with easily understanding words. The main reason I choose doctor of pharmacy program is that being a pharmacist can help myself make own contribution to the community, I feel very satisfied and enjoyable to solve people’s problems regarding medications. Independent pharmacy really gives pharmacists chances to interact more with patients directly. I always believe, everyone has only one life time to experience this wonderful world, the only way to experience deeper is to contribute more. I am looking forward to find any internship in community pharmacy, where I could use my passion and knowledge to help
