From a very early age dentistry has always had a valiant impact on me, both in terms as an patient as well as a dedicated pre dental student in college.My most transformative experiences occurred as an intern at Howard Universities Oral surgery department, I valued the montage of technical, scientific, and interpersonal aspects of dentistry. My unwavering decision to become a physician is also grounded in experiences closer to home, where I have gained insight into some of the challenges physicians face.Being in an clinical setting solidified to me that dentists have an social conscience, and are able to relate to their patients on a far more personal level which is not usually seen as often in other fields of healthcare. …show more content…

every week a patient of hers in his late thirties came in for his last filling. He was advised by Dr Paulino to continue this regiment which was given to him as an preventative measure to refrain from losing his teeth. Towards the end of his consultations he proudly told Dr. Paulino he was on week four of no smoking or alcohol consumption. By witnessing his initiative on taking care of not only his teeth but his health only solidified my pursuit into becoming a dentist. Dr. Paulino familiarized me with strategies for oral care and disease prevention. I absorbed a great deal from her, and as a result, my interest in dentistry and the research behind oral health disparities
